My Prodigal Sun

by OhJames

"Blood! Blood! Blood! Blood! Blood! Blood! Blood!"
- My Prodigal Sun, during the chorus of one of their most popular songs " They Are Twelve"
"That band's a bad influence! Playing at that awful place, singing those blasphemous things, and turning our boys and girls from the right path! I have half a mind to go over there right now, but I've just put the laundry out to dry.
-Meldina Grent, indignant housewife.
"Good band, great licks, but kinda creepy, even for here."
- Drowning in Viscera

One of the most popular bands to play in /Malfeas, My Prodigal Sun has developed quite a reputation. Among frequent concert-goers, they are a band to be savored, as their live shows are often thought-provoking, but to be feared at the same time, for fights break out with disturbing frequency. "Posers" are often left bleeding on the club's floor as MPS's most die-hard fans take it upon themselves to "educate" them in the proper way to listen to music.

The band itself consists of three members, two male and one female. The woman, who goes by the alias Rose Red Rose, is tall, slender and achingly beautiful. She sings lead vocals and bangs away on a shabby stringed instrument of some kind, which can only be heard during solos. The reason for this are the percussive stylings of Violent V, who smashes pots, pans, and any poor, defenseless drum he can get his meaty paws on. The third member provides backup vocals and plays horn. He calls himself Liar and never takes the stage without a dripping, black strip of cloth tied tightly over his eyes and forehead.

The music My Prodigal Sun specializes in is loud, fast, and nearly without melody. Rose Red Rose, who has remarkable control over her voice and can sing chords all by herself, screams out staccato bursts of morbid lyricism against Violent V's crashing, clanging backbeat. Liar's horn provides a counter-melody to Rose and he lends his gravelly, yet strangely seductive, voice to the general clamor when the chorus rolls around.

Rumours

  • MPS are clearly a bunch of demon-worshippers. If you take the lyrics of their songs and decode them, they are rife with the occult symbolyism necessary to actually call up the twisted souls of the Yozis.
  • MPS are trying to reform the youth of Nexus. Their songs, when decoded, are really exhortations towards righteous living and warnings of the dangers that come when you stray from the path of the Immaculates. They're image is just that: an image. They need to insinuate themselves into the scene before the can spread their message.

Secret

  • The name My Prodigal Sun is an incredibly accurate descriptor of the band members: they are, in fact, a trio of young Abyssal Exalts serving the Lover. As of now they are mostly idling, practicing their musicianship, making sure to nudge barfights in the lethal direction, and binding any ghosts that happen to result. Rose Red Rose, whose title is Lady of the Spider's Teardrop, is of the Midnight Caste and uses her performance charms to influence the audience as a whole. Liar, whose title is Little Trouble Boy, is of the Moonshadow caste and uses subtle magic to nudge specific fights or interactions toward the desired conclusion. Violent V, a Dusk Caste named Pursuer of the Truest Cut, simply adds to the general angry tone of the piece. Both Bolt Thrower and Drowning in Viscera have their suspicions, but they don't want to run to the Immaculates for fear of Malfeas' continued existence
