Raist: To eliminate Sidereals....good luck going up against the Maidens. They see you coming, and they plot a million and one frustrating traps simply so that they can one-finger-death-blow you when you actually get face to face with 'em.

The thing that sucks the worst about being a Maiden is that the source of your Real Cosmic Power to make things come out exactly as you'd like them to . . . is your dedication to having things come out like they should rather than like you want them to.

I am morally certain that somewhere in the House of Endings there is a garden, and in that garden a vine-covered statue, old and cracking, and that that statue is this: a nude of the Maiden of Endings, cast in marble, with her sword in her hand and held at her own neck. The writing at the statue's base, in the old dry fountain in which she stands, is in Old Realm script, and reads "Ever Vigilant." For this is that aspect of the Maiden of Endings that stands eternally ready to strike even herself down, should she stray beyond the acceptable boundaries of bias for a Maiden of Fate.
