Ever-useful Gel
Artifact Level ~ 1
Commitment ~ 1 mote

Ever-useful Gel is a substance created by the Mountain Folk and later adopted by other artisans in the First Age. A single batch consists of a fist sized mass of a translucent, malleable gel or putty. After attunement, the gel has many innate properties: It may be caused to glow up to the intenisty of a torch. It can adhere to any surface. At the user's discretion it may used to create liquid or air tight seals. It can be eaten, and although bland and tasteless, provides enough material to generate 3 meals for an adult person. It may be worn over the eyes to prevent irritation by debris, smoke, or bright light. It can be made opaque and reflective, like a mirror. It can be placed in a person's shoes, reducing the difficulty of fatigue rolls while traveling by foot by 1. It can be broken apart, and individual pieces may be used in any of the above fashions, so long as the piece is large enough to serve its intended purpose.

In addition, its user may expend a mote of essence to illicit another set of effects: The gel can be hardened, creating a useful adhesive for creating patches or barring doors. Treat it as a Brick Wall for purposes of breaking. The gel can be worn over the mouth as a filter, providing a one die bonus to resistance rolls against airborne effects. It can be reduced to a more liquid state and applied to the body as a lotion, providing a one die bone to resistance rolls against environmental trauma. It can burst into flame, even underwater. It can be wrung dry, producing a gallon of fresh water. Finally, if pieces are lost, destroyed(including being eaten), or left behind, a mote can be spent to return it to its original mass. Each of the above effects lasts for an hour, after which the gel becomes inert for a day. Likewise, after being reconstituted, the gel is inert for a day.

These are just the most common uses attributed to the gel, and cunning users may discover more functions.
