Cat of Chiaroscuro

Flaxen Catacomb, Vizier to the Tri-Kahn of Chiaroscuro writes:

The one known as Cat, though a legend in Chiaroscuro, was not actually born there. According to testimony given by his mother at one of the his many trials, she conceived Cat within the Topiary of the Invested, following a short seduction by Arian, God of Cats.

Much of Cat's exploits have, no doubt, grown in the telling, but the legend of his having nine lives may well have been true. Written certification of his death was recorded at least five times, two of these also resulting in his being interred in the family mausoleum (or, at least, records of such). It is widely known that his final death brought one of the few instances of city-wide rioting to an end, after having inadvertently caused most of it through one of the odd strings of coincidences and indiscretions for which is is so well known. Even more odd, and much less publicized, is that after enduring duels, poison fire and falls from great heights, his life was finally ended by an uncharacteristically low key and confusing appearance of the sword known as Ashen Vengeance, wielded in this case by a mysterious terrestrial known only as the Firemane.

While many idolized Cat, even in his own time, for his romantic exploits and ability to take advantage of the wealthy in clever ways to help the poor, his legend grew largely in the courtroom, where a clever tongue, bold strategy and raw charisma always saw him released. In one of his most famous defenses, he spent three days telling a story to the court, making an eloquent (and ultimately successful) argument that, when you actually dove down and analyzed it, essentially argued that he should be found innocent of helping a boy kill his parents because the boy was an orphan.

Nearly 50,000 people showed up at his final funeral, including many of those he had wronged over his colorful life. While rumors of Cat sightings still persist today, at last check his tomb still contained his remains.
