House Rules

  1. Increased Stunt Essence: this rule from Power Combat will also mean that the Willpower reward is doubled.
  2. Hardness can reduce the minimum damage of an attack to intermediate values, not just directly to zero. The process for this is as follows.
    1. First, subtract the defender's Hardness from the raw damage of the attack. If the resultant value is less than the attacker's Essence, then that is the new minimum damage.
    2. Second, check to see how much the character's Soak will reduce the damage. Since this is almost invariably equal to or greater than the Hardness, this means the new minimum damage (if any) will probably apply.
    3. Hardness-granting effects stack unless otherwise specifically stated. So, Invulnerable Skin of Bronze and superheavy Artifact armor add up to 16 bashing and 10 lethal hardness.
    4. Example: Hiram the Unbending has a Hardness of 16 against Bashing damage, due to his superheavy Jade armor and being the subject of the spell Invulnerable Skin of Bronze. An attack for 20 bashing damage hits him, from an Essence 5 attacker. Due to his soak of 32 against bashing damage, this will certainly be reduced to ping damage. Subtracting 16 from 20, we find that the damage only exceeds the hardness by 4, which is less than the attacker's Essence. Because of this, the attacker rolls only 4 dice of damage.
