The Heptarchy of Angle-Land

  • Location: The North: Between the River of Tears and the Silver River
  • Population
    • Urban: 212,000 in 4 cities (Addigshold, the Capital, is 70,000 people)
    • Surrounding Area: 15 million
  • Ruler: Heptarch Edgar IV, Son of Eomond VII
  • Status: Former Tributary of the Lemarchand Gang, now Flunkies of the Boo of the North

Angle-Land was once a green and pleasant land, much of which was part of the so-called 'Triangle Prefecture'. Most of its original population died during the Chaos Plague and War and the survivors reverted to tribalism in small farming villages. Thus, they were no match for bands of Abominable Snow-Men who flooded out of the colder lands to the Northwest around 300 IY. Despite a brief period of unity and successful defense under Magical Girl Lii, who styled herself 'The Daughter of the Dragon', the land eventually fell to the blades of the Snow-Men around 343 IY, after the betrayal and murder of Lii in a civil war with her own daughter. She was buried under a hidden hill, from which local legends claim she will eventually return to save the land in its darkest hour.

The Snow-Men settled down in seven kingdoms and spent the next several centuries slaughtering each other for no good reason in contests to become Heptarch of the Seven Kingdoms. At various times, various of the kingdoms served as tributaries to different Magical Girl Gangs from the Realm; the Tepes, Memnonic, Lemarchand, and Nebbish gangs have all had holdings here. Eventually, with the help of House Lemarchand, the current ruling house, founded by Aelfric II of Addigshold, defeated the other six kings and created a more stable government, reducing the other Kings to Ducal status. This happened in 668 IY. The Aelfric dynasty has ruled its unstable kingdom since then.

When the Boo of the North moved against Telmarine, he did so by simply overrunning Angle-Land in a great tide. Many of the locals rose up and joined him, wanting freedom from the Realm; Edgar IV was pushed by his council into killing off the Lemarchand Satrap and the small Lemarchand forces in the Kingdom were wiped out. By doing this, he saved the throne for his dynasty, but now he has been reduced to the role of Flunky to the Boo instead of the Lemarchands; he's not so sure this is any better.

Angle-Land is a land of small villages; only a handful of major cities exist and most people quietly tend sheep or grow fruits and vegetables in the countryside. Every so often, the populace grows too large and the young flock to the Ducal courts to become part of Ducal armies, which leads to a round of civil war that then trims back the population. This is the cycle of life.

If you like bucolic countryside, poetry, sheep, and fruit, this is a very cute land. If you have higher standards, it smells too much like dung and beer and isn't very cute at all. There are lots of cute farmgirls, which may be all you care about...
