SynodicExaltation
Synodic Exaltation
Similar in its basic nature to the conversion of a Solar to an Abyssal, the Exaltation of a Synodic differs in several vital ways. The Sidereal to become a Synodic does not have to foreswear his former powers or assosciations. Newly converted Synodic Exalted are still able to use their Sidereal Charms and Sidereal Astrology; they even retain their original Anima Abilities.
The power of the Dark Lords is not enough to completely over-write an Exaltation as the Abyssal conversion does, they are only able to graft their powers onto the Sidereal's existing abilities. The process of becoming a Synodic Exalted is more akin to becoming an Akuma rather then becoming an Abyssal.
When a Sidereal accepts the Dark Lords' offer and becomes a Synodic several changes take place both mechanically and socially.
Mechanical Changes
- The ability to learn all SynodicCharms at out-of-caste costs.
- The character gains the Anima Ability of his Synodic Caste but also retains his Sidereal Anima. The Sidereal Anima may be activated at a cost of 15 motes.
- A simple ritual taking 5 minutes and requiring an Int + Occult roll (difficulty 1 per spirit) that allows the character to summon one of the minor gods in service to their Lord.
- Normal Essence regeneration within the Underworld and Shadowlands.
- The character is allowed to buy Underworld Astrology Colleges at non-Maiden prices.
Social Changes
- All Heavenly Backgrounds are reduced to 1 or removed upon discovery of the tainting. This includes Salary, Connections, Celestial Manse and possibly Allies, Contacts and Mentor. The Storyteller is encourage to role-play out this loss and allow the character to mitigate the loss of Backgrounds. The listed losses are the absolute minimum for total lack of effort to save face in Heaven.
- A version of the Whispers background that allows the character to contact their patron Lord or Ouranos instead of the collective Malfean whole. This Background uses the same rules as in Abyssals.
- The character gains Mentor at 4. This indicates the active interest their Lord takes in their affairs.
- An additional and option Background, Thrall, exists. Ratings in Thrall represent a negative relationship with your Lord, higher ratings indicate that he is displeased with you and keeps you on a short leash. A rating of 1 indicates only minor tension in the relationship, where as 3 indicates slavery in an Abyssal and 5 indicates an Infernal type of relationship.
- The character gains Backing 3 from the Underworld Spirits or Gods that serve the same Lord. This Background also gives a certain amount of respect from servants of the Malfeans such as Deathlords, Abyssal Exalted and Nephwracks.
