Sketch

The woman called Burns the Sun, or the Stonespear, for her tendancy to employ spears carved with her bare hands, is tall, athletic, and beautiful, with smoldering red eyes, bright red hair, and mahogany skin. In battle she wears as little as possible, sitting almost naked astride her terrible automaton steed, Black Iron Dragon, with her daiklaive Burning Rain in one hand and her stone spears in the other. The sight of her lithe, nude body upon the behemoth of iron and jade rouses her soldier's lust and reassures them of her fearlessness. At rest, the Stonespear wears diaphonous robes newly stolen from some caravan that she or her men sent to a bad end.

Burns the Sun is new to her power, and it shows. Although she has the self-control to prevent her passions from dominating her, she rarely tries, prefering to rage at the top of her lungs, break things, and draw those who offend her into her flaming embrace. After all, she is a god, and is this not the way gods ought to behave? Her heart is full of fire, but it is a cold fire, and ultimately she sees those who serve her as nothing more than tools to be used and discarded.

History

Burns the Sun was born to the lowest family in the poorest tribe of the desert's nomads. The fair folk ate her people's dreams, the Dune People ate her people's flesh, the other tribes stole their sons and daughters and sold them northward, to be slaves in Chiaroscuro and the Realm. Even whithin her tribe, Burns the Sun and her family had the least. Finally, after a short and painful life of hardship laid upon hardship, Burns the Sun suffered a final insult. She was to be sacrificed whithin the depths of the desert ruin the shamans had brought her tribe to, to win the favor of a new god they had dreamed of, leaving her parents old and poor and with no one to take care of her.

Burns the Sun entered the manse. After all, she had no choice. Exactly what happened there is a secret to everyone but Burns the Sun and the spirit. The spirit no doubt tried to devour her as a sacrifice, when some power whithin her rebelled. The dragon's blood, long dormant, enveloped her in a bonfire of flaming essence, searing the little god and driving it back.

The little god, Nine Burning Stars, thought fast. Here was more than a sacrifice, here was a tool that could win it more worship than it thought possible. The spirit wove a web of lies about the young Exalt, telling her that she was to be its avatar in the world of men, to bring its worship to all of Creation. In return, it would raise her tribe above all others and deliver to them those who had once victimized them. Flush with power and eager for revenge, Burns the Sun agreed. She emerged from the manse on the back of the Black Iron Dragon that had been buried there and killed the shamans who had sent her to die. She was the leader of the tribe now, the messenger of the new god.

Burns the Sun - now called the Stonespear - has begun leading her tribe north. For now they raid the other desert tribes. Sooner or later, Burns the Sun will turn her attention to the civilized South, but for now she, and her spirit, are content with revenge and the loot and worship it earns them.

Backgrounds

Artifact ••••

Burns the Sun possesses an iron and jade automaton in the shape of a serpentine dragon. Capable of flying and running at tremendous speeds, equipped with razor-sharp claws, and immune to Burns the Sun's fiery anima, the Black Iron Dragon is the perfect mount for the barbarian princess. The Black Iron Dragon requires a level two or better hearthstone to function. Burns the Sun's mentor is more than happy to provide that hearthstone, which currently rests deep whithin the automaton's body.

Artifact ••

Burning Rain, a red jade daikliave Burns the Sun purchased with loot from her raids. Once, Burning Rain belonged to a dynast, long since slain by anathema, her gear sold into the black market.

Cult ••

Nine Burning Stars diverts some of its worship to its favorite servant, Burns the Sun. The Stonespear encourages her own worship with her fickle, godlike behavior and flamboyant presence.

Followers •••

At any given time, Burns the Sun is surrounded by a crack bodygaurd of raiders who have fought with her since her exaltation. In addition, Burns the Sun commands her entire tribe in every way.

Mentor ••

The spirit, Nine Burning Stars.

Resources •••

The proceeds from raiding against other desert tribes.
