The character has an ordained ending planned by fate that they have somehow become aware of, it's often said that the insidious prophecies of this nature are self-fulfilling and that the more one tries to avoid this dire fate, the consequence of their actions will only hasten it's arrival.

effects

Doom works in a manner similar to the Destiny background, save that its rating determines how likely it will come to pass. The wording of the prophecy is given to the player and is encouraged to be cryptic.

For example "You will fall by the hand of a redhaired sorceress" - if properly executed the prophecy should make the character uneasy about dealings with anyone who matches that general description.
