Terrestrial Circle Spells
Induction Of Purpose
Cost: 20 motes
Everything in existance has a purpose, an underlying meaning that defines its existance. Through the medium of this spell, a character may define an object's purpose, ensuring that it does what the character desires, and transforming its nature to better suit the task that is needed.
This spell may only be cast upon an object that is either not owned or owned by the character. The character touches the object, and speaks out the three phrases with which Sachevarell defined purpose before his defeat and transformation. At the conclusion of this, she speaks aloud the purpose that the object is to have. This can be as simple as "Protect my daughter", or as precise as "Reach the top of the Imperial Mountain by Calibration."
The character then rolls Intelligence + Occult, adding a number of bonus dice equal to her Essence. The result is the number of free 'events' that the object can use over the course of a story. Objects are considered to have a Motivation equal to the stated goal, and can spend one of the successes granted for one of the following: granting a free success to any witnessed action that benefits the goal, removing a single success from any action that detracts from the goal, or causing one minor event to occur that makes the goal more likely to succeed. The object's pool refreshes once each story, until the goal either becomes impossible or is completed. At this time, the spell fades out of existance.
A given object may not be inducted more than once; any attempt to apply a second purpose fails automatically. The object's successes need not be used by the caster, and the Storyteller decides how they are applied.
