My Commentary
This flashback happened within the confines of the game, but is a lot more independent. The DB that Khnuma stared into the eyes of and the one who she see's in the vision aren't even related:) That was, as noted, her first real glimpse of a DB...one can guess that's just how Lytek wanted to sculpt her memories.
the Flashback
::As you looked into the Captain's eyes, the first time you'd ever seen one of the Dragon-Blooded, your mind -- unbidden, and for no reason you could presume -- flashed back toward a vision, of a past that you had seen before but a story that was new to you...::\\ ::You stood, a deer in the cover of the forest, carefully moving through the forest as if you saw nothing and heard nothing. The hunters, powerbows in hands, were beyond your awareness. The trackers, carefully following your trail and moving through the underbrush as if they were quiet and silent, did not earn your notice.::\\ ::Instead, you bounded carefully up toward a large green bush -- right within the sights of the powerbow, and easily within sight of the trackers, -- and began nibbling on some of the foilage.::\\ ::You did not hear their mumbling excitement, at having finally found the white deer. You did not hear the arrow as it was pulled from the quiver, or the slight twinge in the bowstring as it was strung. You merely chewed on the broad leaf, happy and innocent as the simple deer you were, no doubt fine sport and meat worthy of the Daimyo.::\\ ::Your finally turned, regarding the hunter in that long second as he released the arrow and it flew toward you. Your eyes met his, and his features turned to horror as he saw what was writ upon them. The trackers screamed, as your body twisted and grew to three times it's size.::\\ ::A single hand snaked out like lightning, and you held the arrow in your hand. You smiled, cracking it easily in two. "Come back," your innocent and sweet voice cried out. "The Hunt is just beginning, oh glorious retainers of the Daimyo of Rithbald."::\\ ::Your voice twisted, sarcastic and full of hate, then. "Oh well, I suppose it's no fun if the deer lays down her head and waits for me to slit her throat, is it?" Then, you set off, relentless and unshakable.::\\ ::The trackers, you took first. They were fools, their trail as easy to follow as if they were boars pounding heedlessly through the undergrowth of the forest. You finished them quickly, with only enough time to realize that you were the one that killed them.::\\ ::You then turned toward the assisstants of the bowman, who were not as swift in the woods as he. Uncaring of their survival, he had let them fall behind -- to far behind. You gutted them both, impaling them on branches, and left them hanging there...alive. Your children would find them, soon enough.::\\ ::Then, at long last, you turned your path toward the bowman -- he was mostly unimportant to you, a Forester in the service of the Daimyo. You'd seen him many times before, and even helped his hunt on occasion and lain with him once. That face, it's silver pretty hair and luscious red lips, was the one you trailed after him with now.::\\ ::As you drew closer, you cried out in it's familiar voice, telling him that it was hopeless to flee. But he fled on, struggling, essence trying to hide his tracks and speeding his travel. Hoping that he could escape the forest, get to the garrison on the edge of the Daimyo's territory, find safety.::\\ ::You took him within sight of the forests border, with the sun streaming down on him. A single slash of your moonsilver boomerang cut his legs from his body, and he lay there bleeding, as you came to him. You smiled, blood red lips that had kissed at his wary form mocking him now.::\\ ::"Why?" he asked, as you leaned in closer with clawed hands to rip out his heart.::\\ ::"It is nothing personal, Suletti, I assure you. You have been nothing but my friend," you explained, patting his cheek lightly and giving him a soft kiss upon his forehead. "But your new master, the most recent Daimyo of Rithbald, is Rudzi of the Spear." You smiled then, and saw that he did not understand.::\\ ::"He killed my husband," you explained, waiting, eyes probing, until you saw that he understoood what you intended to do...::\\ ::...then your hand shot into his chest, and pulled his still beating heart from his body. You ate it quickly, savoring it's taste, and then stood. Once more, and for the final time, Suletti left the shelter of the forest.::\\ ::You patted your side-pocket, checking to make sure that the venison was still stored within.::
