The Luffy Family of Pirates and the Grand Line

The Grand Line

This term is sometimes used to refer to the huge arcing line of islands which runs from the Southwest to the West to the Northwest. It is especially used by Western Pirates to refer to this whole area.

It is said that the Great Pirate King Blueskin (a Bishonen Shinobi), upon being finally caught by the Magical Girls at the end of the Harem Age, announced he had hidden his treasures where only his successor would find them; whoever found his gold would become the True Great Pirate King and rule where he had once ruled. The only clue was that he had hidden his treasures on the Grand Line.

Ever since that time, the Western Pirates have searched for his gold and fought for the right to become Great Pirate King. Many pretenders have risen and fallen since that day and the search and struggle continues...

The Luffy Family

One group of pirates have become especially infamous. The Luffy family of pirates are a collection of freaks, weirdos, nutjobs, eccentrics and visionary maniacs led by a cadre of leaders who have gained supernatural powers through the consumption of DemonFruit. Indeed, it's rumored some of them either have become Demons or perhaps just mate with such. Based in a giant congerie of ships and docks strapped together in the islands of the Southwest, a veritable floating city, they have defeated all attempts to overthrow them so far, and are known to seek the treasures of the Grand Line.

The Luffy Family has also been sparring with the forces of the Pitchblack of late; certain rumors claim the leader of the family is infatuated with her and wishes to make her his bride...

DemonFruit

Rumor has it that the original DemonFruits were the result of a botanical experiment cross-breeding various demonic servants of the You'll See with fruit. These plants are frequently also irradiated with Oniboshi energies as it ebbs and flows across the western oceans. The result are plants which grant various demonic powers to those who eat them, but usually also some counter balancing flaw. Some have more Oniboshi energies and grant oni powers. A tiny number of people turn into oni or demons when they eat these rare fruits, for reasons unknown.
