Forgotten History

At the end of the Age of Sorrows, the Yozis used the fifty stolen Solar essences to attempt to break out of Malfeas (see Savant and Sorcerer, p73 for more info on the artificial loophole in the Yozi's prison). However their plan was leaked and the Realm's forces, combined with the united forces of all the Sidereals and the remaining Solars managed to turn back the tide and slew all the Green Sun Princes.

It became fairly obvious that such an event could not be allowed to occur ever again. Even despite the various faction-leanings, the remaining Solars convinced the Sidereals to aid them in a campaign to seal away all the celestial essences in an Orichalcum Prison which was to be placed in Elsewhere. Meanwhile, as in the time of the Great Contagion, all the threads of Creation were again woven together into a new future which would eventually seal Creation from the outside - the Wyld, the Underworld and Elsewhere.

The Intervening Period

The Dragon-Bloods were left to safeguard the world, and eventually bred themselves out. Occasionally strong bloodlines would cross and a low-breeding Dragon-Blood would appear, but how these individuals were received varied from culture to culture - sometimes they were revered, sometimes they were reviled. Eventually humanity forgot the ancient times.

The Yozis, however, did not.

Creation could not be properly shut off from Malfeas - the Yozis' very shattered existence being tied to Creation. Whether through summonings by the occasional Dragon-Blood or through accident, demons occasionally managed to slip out and breed with humans. Various cults and underground societies formed as a result of these bloodlines.

Today

The Yozis have sought the Orichalcum Prison for thousands of years because it holds the only keys to their escape. Five years ago, a group of demon-blooded managed to call it back into the world, causing a major Wyld zone rift (and smaller ones from the fall out) called the Hell's Gate. With this breaking of the world, the Underworld began to reconnect too and various shadowlands have begun appearing as well.

The UN quickly intervened, sealing off the Hell's Gate and are slowly investigating its nature, but they are years behind actually discovering what it is.

Since the impact though, various individuals have begun showing supernatural talents - and government agencies, as well as underground groups have begun picking them up to use to their own ends. Their existence has been kept a secret from the general public however. Those who are capable of tracking the other "empowereds" have also naturally gravitated to those jobs which require their skills (ie, police work, intel, etc).

Yu-Shan

All the gates to Yu-Shan have been shattered. The only gate remaining is the Calibration Gate, which has to be called (incidentally, Calibration itself has broken over the ages, and exists as a single day that only shows up in the calendar once every four years).

Should the players manage to call the Calibration Gate, inside are the slaughtered corpses of the Celestial Lions. Inside Yu-Shan itself, they would find a shattered ruin of what was once a wondrous city. The only two structures still standing are the Jade Pleasure Dome (which is sealed, but does still contain the Incarnae, who have long since forgotten Creation) and the Dome of the Perfected Lotus, which is sealed, barricaded and surrounded by automated artillery which will fire on anything that gets close (and contains the Loom and the Pattern Spiders who have all gone insane over the millenia).

The ruins themselves are littered with papers, bodies of gods and possibly some artifacts.
