Nexus: Outbreak
Around every corner. Behind every door. Deep in every shadow. Evil awaits.
Introduction
This non-canon setting is placed before the disapearance of the Empress, and the return of the Solars. The game takes place in Nexus, as title says. It's horror focused, and meant for Dragon Blooded and Heroic Mortals. It's been split into eight "scenarios", each written to played in a single session. Alternatively, the information on the Timeline can be used for running another game during the twelve days from the beginning of the infection to the end of Nexus.
This was mainly created for two reasons. The first because of a fondness of B-Horror zombie flicks (and, by exension, Biohazard series). I've always done this sort of game in every other system I've run, and frankly I'm only amazed it took me this long to get to Exalted. Secondly, I wrote this because I feel that the horror in the Exalted setting isn't well... horrifying. Demons are usually portrayed as generally evil, but nothing more than very powerful manipulators. The undead, when you encounter them, are only frightening because they're generally as powerful (if not moreso) than the antagonists, not because they're the recently departed, now ambulatory and often intelligent. The setting as a whole lacks a feeling of visceral fear, in my opinion.
I'm going to be posting this to the Wiki as my online group plays through the scenarios, so this may take a few weeks. Feedback is appreciated, and will be included in any version posted. This game makes use of the TheNexusProject, in my tabletop version. I've not included any definite locations in the Wikipedia version, so you can keep players on their toes or make up locations on a whim, but I will note when prominent buildings came up in my game.
Information
Creatures - Creatures (including the "Bosses") will be posted as they appear, to avoid player spoilers. Likewise, information may or may not be subject to change due to this.
NPCs - NPCs will be posted with each chapter. Until the game is completed, NPCs will be posted in a "what do the characters know?" format, and are therefore subject to change.
Timeline - The timeline up to the beginning of "Day One" will be posted when the summery of the first chapter is posted.
Character Creation - There's a lot that should be restricted (and, occasionally allowed easier) in a Survival Horror Exalted game. I try to hit a few key points here.
Scenarios
Outbreak
"Panic and riots already gripping the city, some of us found safe haven in strong drinks. But nobody suspected what came next."
The first actual scenario, meant to introduce characters to the central concepts of the game, as well as some of the reccuring cast members. Storytellers are reccomended to not go too hard on them this time around, as the challengers get progressively meaner. This game should run for a 1-4 hours, depending on how much your players want to screw around (and how much you add to the framework). [To be added after the first session.]
Dying Culture
"Bastion's riches had managed to keep the infection out. With the whispers of an evacuation, we rushed to the promised safety of the mansions and manses. But the real horror was yet to come..."
Details forthcoming.
Hunting Grounds
"Reports of lights in the sky in the Nexus district sent us scrambling to see what could be found. However, the truth was the beginning some something far more sinister."
Details forthcoming.
Burning Bright
"Firewander. While most of us would have avoided it at all costs beforehand, it seemed as if it could have been a possible source of respite from the masses of walking dead. We should have known better."
Details forthcoming.
Confinement
"The walled neighborhood of Tellnaught had yet to fall to the ghouls who wandered the rest of Nexus in packs. But the horror within was much more frightening than any of the plague's spawn."
Details forthcoming.
The Bigger Picture
"The Guild, despite being in the center of all the chaos, still held strong. With nobody else to turn to, we hoped to strike a devil's bargain and join them. Inside the building, though, were things we could have never suspected."
Details forthcoming.
Countermeasures
"The events of the previous night still fresh on our minds, we moved towards a new goal. Amidst the hoardes of undead, hope was reborn."
Details forthcoming.
End of the Road
"After two events that could be reguarded as no less than miracles, our final chance at escape was here. We had no choice - it was do or die trying."
Details forthcoming.
A prelude scenario may be written later. Suggestions for scenarios for the rescue parties and the mercenary factions that appear in later chapters are also being considered.
