Whirling Sun and Moon Style
- back to AmbroseCollector.

- back to [CelestialMartialArts].
This is a martial arts style based on battle yo-yos, called Whirling Disks hereafter. Stats for both mundane and Artifact Whirling Disks are soon to come.
There are not yet Essence or Martial Arts Minimums because the only character that has it is an Essence 5, Martial Arts 5 Solar, So I didn't feel the need to write them up (I'm lazy). If you have reccomendations, feel free to make them.
Background
Whirling Sun and Moon Style is often disregarded by martial artists and obsessed over by teenagers. The style is, above all else, flashy. This is NOT to say that it isn't powerful. It can easily hold its own against any other style, it simply gets marginalized by more "serious" martial artists due to the excessive attention to peppering the style with impressive tricks that martial artists of this style tend to exert. Most, if not all practitioners of this style have signature tricks they use when they have a moment free. Doing a trick impressively is just as important to a practitioner as getting a hit in.
Training
Training in this style is often highly sought after by young or self-important Exalts, usually Solars. The actual training begins with the crafting or commissioning of a custom whirling disk. Acquiring this through other means, such as theft or a quest is also valid, but it should involve some story that the Exalt can tell later on.
After the Exalt has his disk, He begins with a series of tricks until he can graduate to the first charm by pulling them all together. After this, he sets into actually understanding the style's relationship with the sun.
Weapons and Armor
Whirling disks are clearly the focus of this art, and are treated as unarmed for practitioners of this style. Both mundane and artifact versions of these exist, ranging from actual children’s toys to bladed and weighted disks to huge Moonsilver and Orichalcum Disks with Hearthstone settings.
No armor may by worn with this style, as it requires very quick motions.
Charms

Dazzling Sun Defense</b>
<b>Cost: 3 motes Duration: One turn Type: Reflexive Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: None
Much like the sun dazzles those who look into it, the rapid, confusing motions of whirling disks spinning around the martial artist with this charm disorient enemies. For the turn, an Exalt may add his martial arts to the difficulty to hit him.
Sun Stops at Apex</b>
<b>Cost: 4 motes Duration: One scene Type: Simple Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Dazzling Sun Defense
After mastering the sun in motion, the Exalt learns to simulate the sun at any given point. By spending the motes of essence to activate this charm, the whirling disk becomes lodged in place. Only a direct attack to the disk can move it. The exalt can swing from, hang on, or otherwise pull or hang on the string as much as he wishes as long as nobody touches the actual disk.
Moon Eclipses the Sun</b>
<b>Cost: 3 motes + 1 mote / die Duration: Instant Type: Supplemental Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Sun Stops at Apex
Although generally, whirling disks cannot be used to parry, with this charm, an attack can be parried and extra dice may be bought at 1 mote each, up to the user’s Dexterity + Martial Arts.
Luna’s Cutting Crescent</b>
<b>Cost: 5 motes + 3 motes / die Duration: One Scene Type: Reflexive Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Dazzling Sun Defense
When infused with essence, a mere child’s toy becomes a deadly weapon. By activating this charm, all whirling disks wielded as weapons for the rest of the scene do lethal damage on a successful martial arts attack. Extra lethal damage dice may be bought at 3 motes each up to the user’s Strength + Martial Arts.
Searing Solar Fire</b>
<b>Cost: 10 motes Duration: One scene Type: Reflexive Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Luna’s Cutting Crescent
The moon merely reflects the burning passion of the sun. This charm functions as its prerequisite, except that it can only be used on weapons that already do lethal damage, euither naturally or because of Luna’s Cutting Crescent. That damage is upgraded to aggravated as the essence channels more fiercely along the fine edges. Unlike its predecessor, however, extra dice cannot be purchased.
Whirling Sun and Moon Form</b>
<b>Cost: 4 motes Duration: One scene Type: Reflexive Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Searing Solar Fire, Moon Eclipses the Sun
Nobody keeps the sun and the moon and the planets on their paths but themselves, and so essence-infused disks may operate. With this charm, an Exalt may wield a number of whirling disks effortlessly equal to his permanent essence. Normal die-splitting rules apply for multiple actions, but an exalt can, for instance, swing on one disk with Sun Stops at Apex and still attack with others. In addition, split-action dice may be split up among the number of disks wielded, regardless of rate.
Under One Sky</b>
<b>Cost: 2 motes/target Duration: One turn Type: Reflexive Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Whirling Sun and Moon Form
The sun on its route affects everything it touches, and thus can a martial artists replicate this effect with this charm. For every two motes spent, up to the user’s Martial Arts, an extra target may be attacked with the same disk and the difficulty of the attack increases by one. This is not an extra action, simply one fell swoop that requires no split action. Each attack must be dodged or blocked separately.
One of Many Stars</b>
<b>Cost: 6 Motes, 1 Willpower Duration: Instant Type: Simple Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Under One Sky
Although the sun may be the most powerful, it is still only one of countless stars. With this charm, a martial artist can gain an additional attack for each weapon he wields. If these weapons are yo-yos, the martial artist becomes a blur of spinning disks as his arms loose and pull the strings of his weapons.
Night Follows Day</b>
<b>Cost: 7 motes Duration: Instant Type: Reflexive Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Whirling Sun and Moon Form
By understanding the duality and peaceful coexistence of the sun and the moon, the Exalt with this charm may make a full action and then block for the remainder of their turn, as though they had not acted!
Moonless Night</b>
<b>Cost: 10 motes Duration: Instant Type: Supplemental Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Night Follows Day
With this charm, an exalt may shroud her weapons in darkness. One attack, supplemented by this charm, becomes unblockable. Soak continues to function normally.
Sun Burns no Fuel</b>
<b>Cost: 20 motes, 1 Willpower Duration: One scene Type: Reflexive Min. Martial Arts: - Min. Essence: - Prereqs: Moonless Night
The sun burns eternally with no need for kindling or assistance. Thusly may a master of this art’s attacks become self-powered. With this charm, 5 motes of essence are produced per turn that may only be spent on Martial Arts charms. Any excess motes are lost each turn.
