Luna's Five Faces (Artifact 5)
Attunement: 12 motes
This artifact is a relic of Luna herself. Wielded by a variety of Lunar heroes during the Primordial War, the Five Faces are among the most powerful of moonsilver artifacts, and has been since seen used at least once or twice by First Age Lunars. Currently, it is suspected that Luna's Five Faces are held by the Lunar known as Lilith, but there is no proof to support this conjecture.
In it's natural form, the Five Faces appears to be a small globe. Depending on what angle it is held at, a First Age Lunar castemark can be seen; all five marks are visible on every side from different angles. When the artifact is attuned to a character, however, at the cost of 12 motes, it can transform into a powerful tool.
The Five Faces, in fact, is five artifacts rolled into one. For the cost of a single mote (two motes if the user has not harmonized with the moonsilver), the character can transform the Five Faces into any one of the five following artifacts. Each resonates with the ideals of one Lunar Caste. The transformation can be activated at any time in a turn and is reflexive; however, it takes a full turn for it to complete, during which time the object cannot be used. The character may freely transform any face into any other face, or back into the globe, at the same cost.
The First Face is the Hunter Claw, resonating with the Full Moon. In this form, the globe expands and lengthens, transforming into a beautiful moonsilver spear seven feet long. The Hunter Claw is a powerful weapon; in addition to its innate statistics, if it has been harmonized, it can strike dematerialized spirits freely (the character must still find a way to see them in order to attack effectively). It also gains the moonsilver weapon bonus if harmonized.
Hunter Spear (Power Combat): Speed +8, Accuracy +2, Damage +8L, Defense +3, Rate 4
The Second Face is the Hidden Soul, resonating with the Waxing Moon. When transformed, the Five Faces transform into strands of moonsilver, which wrap around the head of the Lunar, turning into a brilliant silver mask that appears male from some angles and female from others. In this form, the mask applies a +2 difficulty on rolls to detect the character. If the character is a Lunar, this mask also increases the difficulty of noticing their Tell by +1. By spending 4 motes (2 if harmonized), the character can further attune the Face, which melts and changes into that of anyone else. Mechanically, this provides three free successes to any disguise attempt for as long as the motes spent are committed. This CAN disguise the wearer as a specific person. The Tell is still masked if the Face is harmonized.
The Third Face is the Regal Crown, resonating with the Half Moon. In this form, the globe shifts and flattens, flowing up the character's head and taking the form of a silver circlet, which at first appears simple, but on closer inspection contains a thousand layers of tiny silver strands. The Regal Crown improves a character's social capabilities, converting one Charisma or Manipulation die to an automatic success on any roll that uses them. If the Crown is harmonized, convert two dice to automatic successes instead. Note that this does prevent botching.
The Fourth Face is the Silent Skin, resonating with the Waning Moon. While transforming, the Five Faces slide up the wearer's skin and clothes, coating them in an incredibly thin moonsilver suit. Once active, this Skin converts up to three Dexterity dice into automatic successes for the purposes of stealth only. These successes apply even if the character is not attempting stealth. If the character takes active action (such as combat), two of these successes are removed, but the last applies; once someone has located the character, they need not continue rolling Awareness. If the character is harmonized to the artifact, covert up to five Dexterity dice into automatic successes instead.
The Fifth Face is the Silver Way, resonating with the No Moon. While tranforming, the globe turns into a series of runes loosely linked together, which fly apart, covering the character's skin with silver tattoos. If the character is already tattooed as a member of the Silver Pact, these tattoos further enhance and increase the complexity of such tattoos. Transforming to the Silver Way requires the committment of a further 5 motes (3 if harmonized). While the Silver Way lies upon the character's skin, increase his Permanent Essence by 1 for the purposes of all Charm and spell effects. The character's Essence pools do not increase, and he may not use this new Permanent Essence rating to learn new Charms.
