"Well!" Henpin claps her hands, then points to the nice fellow who's gotten bandages and gauze on his bitten face. "This nice man here needs fresh bandages, and if you could give him a touch of opium to dull his pain, check the wounds for tooth fragments." He, a rough-looking fellow who was ugly to begin with, simply looks at Deis. His eyes say, 'Bah, not again.'

Henpin notes Deis' look and sighs. "It's the only thing I could get at the moment to dull the pain. Some of our supplies from Nexus have been... ah, slowed down on their way here. Something about a very large bird." She shrugs, idly applying a splint to a man's arm.

<Henpin> ... Valesti. So... are the rumors true? Barata won't say anything.

".... gyeee. I know I'm a Guild member, but you don't have to be overly formal. Ma'am will do, or just Henpin." Henpin gives the splint bindings a bit of an over-tightening, after the soldier gives her a somewhat lecherous look. "I swear, soldiers... but. Anyway... ah... you know. Shining and all that."
 +

 +
"What...shining?" Deis looks around a bit nervously, not really sure how to respond to that.
 +

 +
"They were all there, Deis. And if one of them so much as peeps, they will most certainly not live to see tomorrow. Your situation is safe with us." Most of the soldiers look a tad more pale after Henpin's comment.

Deis laughs nervously, waving his hands dismissively. "Don't worry, I don't think she'll, well... kill you...." He relaxes a little more, then shrugs, and begins rebandaging the wounded ugly mug.

The reassurance from Deis doesn't help much. Henpin does sigh, however. "That's answer enough. This does make the situation with the Roseblack strange, even if she's just ha---erm. Yes."
 +

 +
<Deis> A what?
 +

 +
"Nothing, nothing---oh, who am I kidding! I... guess I can tell you, but you shouldn't tell anyone else. It's something of a secret, and I'm already in enough trouble for being too friendly." Henpin takes a moment to wash her hands off in a bowl of water, wiping them clean with a (thankfully) fresh towel.
 +

 +
Deis looks on, more than a little confused. "Why do I have a feeling someone forgot to tell me something really important?"
 +

 +
<Henpin> Oh, that part no one knows about!
 +

 +
Deis pauses for a moment, rubbing his temples. "Miss Henpin, please stop being so... umm... confusing."
 +

 +
Henpin gets to work on the next patient--a fellow who seems to have had his fingers bent the wrong way altogether. "Anyway... the Roseblack was originally going to come here, but those nasty faeries rushed her and her men here. And it seemed to have rushed more than one thing..." She leans down. "I know you're a nice, innocent fellow, but I assume you know about where children come from?"
 +

 +
Deis pokes his fingers together a little. "Well... sort of. No one's explained it too me all the way yet--- wait...umm, the lady on the ship had a baby?"
 +

 +
Henpin gets this most interesting look on her face for a moment. It's almost frightening, really. Nonetheless, it fades into one of amusement. "Oh! Well, that'll come in time. Anyway, yes! I don't know the specifics--Barata's been rather tight-lipped, and it's very annoying."
 +

 +
<Deis> But... why would that... why would that need to stay a secret? Aren't babies born all the time?
 +

 +
<Henpin> Well, what I'm thinking... is that she's a Dynast. A veeeeeery important one, to boot. And either she's not supposed to be having children, or she's not supposed to be having <b>that</b> child. They're really strange about bloodlines and purity. Lots of sibling marriages. Vile stuff if you ask me.
 +

 +
Deis moves to the next invalid, a woman with a broken leg---he pauses for a moment, blushing more, then turns to Henpin with a helpless expression on his face. "A... dynast?"
 +

 +
<Henpin> ... you really are from the backwoods. Dynasts are people of high status born on the Blessed Isle... well, it mainly applies to those who become Blooded. Their children can become Dragon-Blooded too, so they try to keep their blood strong. They say all the others just have little weird things happen to their children, but that's crazy alchemist talk. Have you met one of them? They're frightening little men. All books and glasses and body odor.

Deis nods, and slowly bandages the woman's wounds. Said woman sighs gratefully, but nonetheless beige-knuckles the cot she's sitting in. "So...what does that mean for everyone here?"

<Henpin> I don't quite know yet. I guess we'll find out soon enough, hm?
 +

<Deis> I hope it's nothing bad, you've all had enough misfortune.

<Henpin> Bah, we'll weather the storm. For now, you and your friends just do what you have to do. And know that you have a friend here in the Threshold.

Deis smiles warmly, relaxing. "It's always nice to have friends, especially in an odd place like this, Miss Henpin.

"This? Odd? Child... one day, you will see Great Forks. Or, hells, Nexus." Henpin wags a finger. "Then, and only then, will you truly know what 'odd' is."

<Deis> Given the people I'm with, I think they're just the tip of things.

Henpin can only giggle, patting Deis on the head. "Oh, you'll be a fine man someday. Enjoy your innocence while you can. It never comes back..."

The battle was a success! Although... there were a few injuries after all, it seems. Laranth did a fine job of erasing the faeries' front line, but some did get their licks in. Thus, there are a dozen men in a makeshift clinic nearby the town walls closest to the harbor.

Deis steps inside the clinic, resting a hand against the doorframe then sighing as he looks over all the injured, then looking for someone in charge.

Mostly broken limbs, a few cuts and one fellow who looked like he got a faceful of dagger-like teeth. Someone's started on the already, judging by the few assistants there, but one person in particular's taking charge and looking rather out of place... especially when she cheerily waves Deis in.
