GENERAL TECHNOLOGY LEVELS

Return toFrivYeti/SaGTechnology/SteelAndGlass

What There Isn't

The setting, Cities of Steel and Glass, uses a large amount of 'modern' technology. However, this technology is modified by a general lack of certain materials. As a general rule, most devices in Creation (outside of Autochthonian regions) remain powered by Essence. Some people have learned the tricks of harnessing steam and lightning, and people foray into Autochthon for oil, but Essence-powering remains the simplest method. A side effect of this is that almost all technology can be fueled directly by Exalts with the appropriate filter in place, and energy sources can be traded off between objects easily.

What There Is

The following guidelines apply to all nations generically. Each nation will have special technology notes (especially New Estasia and Rathess).

Firedust technology has advanced enough for modern firearms to be commonly available, as in our world.

Cars, motorcycles, and planes are prevalent in Creation, but actually owning one is more rare. Public transport systems slightly more advanced than ours exist in most major cities. These vehicles are almost always Essence-driven, and therefore do not pollute.

Lighting, refrigeration, and other electricity-driven devices are Essence-driven, but otherwise readily available in most areas of the world.

Construction is actually slightly superior to that of our world, and most major cities are composed primarily of skyscrapers and other massive buildings in the entire core, slowly becoming traditional houses in wealthy regions. Suburbs are not really in existance; areas tend to be either urban, rural, or wilderness.

Disease-wise, medicine is superior to our world. Surgeries and physical injuries remain less advanced, although advanced technomagic helps (assume early 20th century capabilities).

Factories are also prevalent, although they can only produce thaumaturgical devices, not actual artifacts. Assume that Shogunate workshops are readily available for use by artificers, though.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it here.
