Iron Crane, Night Caste Fence
Prior to Exaltation, Iron Crane was a small time fence in the city of Nexus. Even in the First Age, Nexus was a bustling metropolis with a substantial criminal element. Crane specialized in recutting large stones into numerous smaller, easier to move, less recognizable pieces of jewelry.
Suffice to say, Iron Crane's clients tended to be somewhat shady characters. Eventually a dispute over payment came up with a handful of muggers who seemed to believe that the necklace they were attempting to sell was worth substantially more than Crane was willing to give. A few minutes later was being pursued down a dark alley by a number of thugs intent on mugging him and taking what little of his stock he had managed to escape from his shop with, when the Unconquered Sun saw fit to grant him Exaltation. He had little difficulty avoiding the thugs - nor, later, reacquiring the merchandice they had taken from him. From that point, his business prospered, and with his newly acquired abilities, he had little difficulty in rising to prominence in the Nexus crime scene.
As his Exaltation became more widely known, Iron Crane realized that he lacked somewhat in both social graces and formal education. The most that could be said of his education before his Exaltation was that he was both literate and capable of simple arithmatic. While this seperated him from the vast majority of the uneducated poor of Nexus, he was painfully aware that there existed certain expectations for the Lords of Creation. From his criminal activities, Crane had substantial sums of cash, and decided to try to obtain the best when it came to a proper education. Crane was discussing the possibility of enrolling as a student of Storm on the Horizon, when a hit squad of Terrestrials came bursting into the instructor's office, hunting for the renowned teacher. Crane was little use in assisting the older Solar, as the Dragon-Bloods proved to be no match for the Celestial, but Crane assisted as he could and the convenience of him being nearby at the beginning of the Usurpation led Storm to decide on taking Crane along.
Crane is a thin, wiry looking, middle aged man, perhaps in his early forties, with tanned skin and black hair apparently both graying and balding. Even after Exalting, his habits of staying as nondescript as possible tend to have survived intact - his clothing is generally well made, but no more so than a relatively successful craftsman might wear. Generally he wears dark pants and shirts, almost always accompanied by a bulky grey coat. His speech tends to be slow and deliberate, often leading others to believe that he isn't very intelligent. However, this is a result of Crane attempting to conceal his poor grasp of social situations rather than any mental deficiency.
