Most Abyssals fear death, it being part of what inspired them to seek their Black Exaltation in the first place and most are aware of what awaits them following this ultimate failure (for their purpose is to bring death to the world, not suffer it). Abyssals with this Charm are more successful at staving off death than many, should worse come to worse.
The Abyssal with this charm adds 3 Incapacitated wound levels to his chart, and one additional wound level per point of permanent Essence. This charm can only be bought once, but the character does gain an additional wound level every time that his Essence increases.
An Exalted who has taken damage past his first Incapacitated wound level with this charm appears dead to most observers, and only a detailed examination will reveal otherwise. Even then a successful Intelligence + Medicine roll (difficulty equal to the number of levels of Incapacitated Damage the character has suffered) must be made. These additional wound levels cannot be healed by any magic, drug or charm – only time will result in the removal of this damage, until the Abyssal has recovered to his natural Incapacitated level. Until that time, he is effectively dead.
