Background
(This is a short form; a longer one is likely to come later)
Joram grew up in the port city of Cherak, an alchemist operating under the watchful eye of House Ferem, have been allowed to enlighten his Essence through difficult geomantic means when young. Even as a young man, he disliked the corrupt nature of the Realm, and fell in with a heretical cult that claimed to be able to undo it. Eventually, Joram proved his loyalty and devotion, and was chosen to be the companion of the cult's demonic patron, the River of Sorrows. Joram's love briefly drew her attention, and she bore for him a daughter, who became the pride of the cult as she grew.
Matters did not last, however. Although Joram's daughter, Elysia, was a powerful demon-blood in her own right, she had little love for the paths of the Yozi. Joram did his best to cover any indiscretions or poor statements, but matters came to a head when one of the first Infernal Exalts, a Fiend named Matao, sought to use the cult as a beachhead, and transformed Elysia into a demon as a 'reward' for her supposed dedication. Elysia attacked the Infernal, and he struck her down for her defiance; although Joram attempted to save her, he was nothing before the might of an Exalt. In his despondency, She Who Lives In Her Name offered him a chance to watch over and protect his daughter forever, which he took.
Now, Joram is insane, unable to face the reality of his situation. He seeks to protect his daughter and give her all of a father's love and the power that she deserves, ignoring her true state and feelings. One day, he may even succeed, and Heaven and Hell alike will tremble.
