Introduction
This project is meant to give players and GMs in Exalted a large group of useful animals for their games. This project originated from my own interest in having a decent sized pool of animals for Lunar characters to fill their Heart's Blood Background. In writing the first part of this supplement I tried to divide the animals, namely dinosaurs, as specifically as possible so as to avoid too generic of entries. After doing more research into the abundance of wildlife, I have, out of necessity, condensed some entries to cover phyletic orders and suborders, rather than specific species. This allowed to me cover a greater range of creatures and does not burden this supplement with what amount to many duplicate entries differing only cosmetically. I've also included a name of a real world creature I modeled the entry on for players who wish to add or expand on may do so. I have also intentionally excluded any sort of Wyld influenced creatures for now, like furred snakes in the North. In the future I hope to add these types to the list.
Although I have tried to adhere to modern biology and paleontology as much as possible some allowances have been made to inclusion of these animals in Creation, as this is a gaming supplement, not a general biology text. For all sizes I have chosen to err to the large end of the scale. For ease of comparison with length being from nose to rump, height to shoulder, or hips; for birds the length from head to tail. Some animals, especially birds, exhibit sexual dimorphism where the male can be up to 25% smaller than the female, another common example is widely different markings between genders. Mammals also exhibit sexual dimorphism but in the reverse direction with males being larger than females.
Ecology of Creation
The vast majority of Creation can be divided into major ecoregions based primarily on vegitation and rainfall. In this section Creation will be divided into these regions to provide a guideline for further development of the project.
Tundra
This region consists of short grasses, mosses and lichens growing in a thin layer of soil above permafrost. The tundra runs in a broad belt from Gethamane, through the lands of the Icewalkers bending north to the pack ice. This region remains frozen year round and sees little precipitation other than snow. The winds blow across the flat landscape for much of the year as well.
Taiga
The taiga regions are characterized by short grass areas not on permafrost and large coniferous forests. Most of the taiga in Creation lies in the Northeast between the tundra to the north of Crystal and the boreal forests of nothern Halta. The forests are dominated by spruce, fir and pine trees creating lichen woodlands where the trees are spaced far apart and the lichens of the taiga cover the floor. Moving further into the forests the trees grow closer togeather and form closed forests with lichen giving way to thick mosses. On the edges of the boreal forests, especially the western ans southern borders of Halta, are some broeadleaf trees including birch, alder, willow and aspen.
Temperate broadleaf forest
These forests consist primarily of decidous trees with oaks, beeaches, maples and birches making up the majority of the plant life, with birch, willow and aspens in the northern areas and elms in the south. This region recieves more precipitation than both the taiga and tundra and supports a much more rich and diverse ecology. This forest exists mainly in the lands held by the Linoa. This region is a bit drier than the boreal forests with ground cover consisting mainly of leaf litter.
Temperate coniferous forest
This region lies further east from the boreal forests and consists exculsively of large conifers consisting of redwoods, sequoias, agathis, alerce and spruce. The gorund cover here is mainly grasses and shrubs until one draws near the elemental pole of Wood and the trees close out all other plant life.
Tropical moist broadleaf forest
Three major regions in Creation. First is the satrapy of An Teng and the Silent Crescent. The second is the region of the Jungle Tribes in the Southeast abutting the Summer Mountains. Third is the region around the city of Mahalanka and the Arczeckhi Horde. This area is drier than the other two regions and many ofthe trees drop thier leaves during the cold season.
Tropical dry broadleaf forest
Region in the far Southeast mostly between Grey and Maruto rivers, including lair of Ma Ha Suchi. This mixes in with the moist broadleaf forest around Mahalanka.
Tropical grasslands, savannah and shrublands
The open terrain of these grasslands is primarily tall grasses, grow up to 16 feet tall, and short thorny shrubs with acacia and baobab trees providing shade. Chaya and the Krala are the major regions in Creation with this type of terrain.
Temperate grasslands, savannah and shrublands
These short grass lands cover most of the River Province and the shores of the Inner Sea. With a tallgrass prairie forming a band between the tropical grassland and the short grasslands. Much of this area is no longer wild as it provides prime cropland for non rice agriculture. This land recieves less rain annually than tropical grasslands but the rain is spread more evenly through out the year.
Montaine grasslands, savannah and shrublands
These short grass areas occure only in the highest mountains beyond the treeline. The Summer Mountains in the Southeast are the best example of this type of terrain.
Desert shrublands
This terrain is characterized by dry sandy soil dominated by cactai and other succulent plants. This area is found exclusively in the South once the climate becomes too dry to support the grasslands, primarily in the hills south of Lap around into Harborhead.
Mediterranean forests
Are characterized by hot, dry summers and rainy winters. Much of the vegitation is a mosaic of grasslands and forests with scrubland on the coasts. The best example of this is on the penninsula north of An Teng.
Mangroves
Mangrove forests occupy much of the coastline of the islands in the Southwest and the Wavecrest Archipelago.
Continental shelf
This is an area of fairly shallow water surrounding land masses. It typically extends 50 miles from shore and rarely falls below 500 feet deep. Though in the Inner Sea between the area around Tuchara on the Blessed Isle and An Teng; and the area connecting the Incas Prefecture to the area around Harborhead are areas of large shelves extending the entire distance.
Littoral
This is the area that is covered by water by the tides.
Riparian
River climate.
Pond
Inland fresh water.
Coral reef
Coral reefs are prevalent in the Western islands and off the shore of the southwest Blessed Isle.
Kelp forest
The largest kelp forest in Creation is the massive sargasso sea surrounding Bluehaven. Smaller kelp forests are found along the land coasts of the Haslanti League in the White Sea and Malice bay.
Pack ice
North shore of the White Sea is primarily pack ice which is ice over a body of water.
Pelagic zone
Open Western Ocean especially in the Northwest and Southwest.

Mospid (Microraptor)
2 feet long, 8 pounds
This tiny creature is the smallest of the predatory dinosaurs. It is covered in long feathers on its body and remiges on all four limbs allowing it to fly. With the flight feathers on its legs the mospid is a fairly awkward walker and is usualy found either perching or climbing trunks of trees. The mospid lives in the East, West and Southwest where dense forests provide ample prey in insects and small animals. The live in flocks of 15 to 30 and will attack hatra on sight

The XXX looks much like the Claw Strider but is more lightly built and has a longer, thinner snout. It is covered in feathers varying in color from black to brown to red. This extremely light and swift pack hunter ranges the more heavily wooded areas in the East and Southeast in packs hunting large game. Its long arms and agile hands allow the XXX to take prey on the run. It typically preys on small mammals and reptiles.

The Claw Runner also resembles the Claw Strider and like the XXX is covered in feathers with the same coloration as XXX. Heavier built than the XXX, Claw Runners hunts in the same manner, in packs of 5 to 12. These creatures prefer open woodlands and savannah and have serated teeth for tearing flesh, allowing them to tackle larger prey like cattle and antelopes.
Claw Strider(Utahraptor)
21 feet long, 6 feet tall, 1500 pounds
The Claw Strider is the ultimate predator of the open grasslands of the East and South. The Claw Strider has shorter feathers on its forelimbs as they would be damaged while holding onto prey. This dinosaur hunts in small packs, usually 3 to 7, and only preys on the largest targets. Use Claw Strider stats (Core). Must use Towering Beast Form Knack.

Creatures of Air
Haring Ibon (Phillipine Eagle)
This eagle is a large, broad winged bird with a wingspan of 7 feet. Its upperside is dark brown with white undersides and has a large blue-black beak. The haring ibon's has long brown feathers on its head resembling a mane and the eyes are blue. This eagle lives in the rainforests of the Southwest and West and preys upon small mammals or other available food sources.
Aquila (Golden Eagle)
This bird is a large, broad winged bird with a wingspan of 7 feet. It is golden brown all over. The beak is black and it has golden eyes. This eagle is widespread, found predomianatly in the East, but also the inland North, and will hunt in almost any terrain. It preys upon mammals ranging up to young deer in size.
Haliaeetus (Bald Eagle)
This bird is the same size as both the Haring Ibon and Aquila. It has dark brown feathers on the body with white plumage covering its head and tail. Haliaeetus has a yelloe beak with a bright yellow eye. This eagle lives primarily along the Northern coast and rivers and dines on fish and carrion.
Harpia (American Harpy Eagle)
This eagle is the same size as the Hargin Ibon but with a slightly smaller wingspan, 6 feet, to better navigate through the forest. It has a slate colored upperside with white underside and fethered legs. Its head is ash grey and has a crest of erect feathers on its crown. This bird has a blue beak, dark eyes and exceptionally large talons. It dwells in the West and feeds mainly on arborial primates.
Audax (Wedge Tailed Eagle)
This eagle is similar in size to the other eagles and resembles the aquila in coloration. The main difference is the tail fethers forms a distinct wedge shape while flying. This bird lives mainly in the Southeast and South and feeds on whatever prey it can catch.
Buteo (Red Tailed Hawk)
This bird of prey is smaller than the eagles but has the same general shape. It has a wingspan of up to 5 feet. The coloration is usually brown upperside and white underside, but numerous variations have been seen. It has a black beak, dark brown eyes and bare legs. Buteo is common in all regions and feeds primarily on rodents but also takes small birds and reptiles. In some areas this bird has developed a social organization and hunts cooperatively, much like an aerial wolf pack.
Aegypius
This bird has broad, rectangular wings and has an enormous wing span reaching 12 feet. It is covered with dark brown or black plummage and has a naked head. Its black beak and eyes enhance its already meancing apperance. The aegypius is a scavenger and has a very keen sense of smell. It spends the majoity of its day soaring while waiting to detect its next meal, usually the leavings from some kind of predator. This bird ranges from the North, where its head is covered in fine sah grey down, around through the Sotheast and South.
Hierofalcon
This bird is smaller than a buteo and is more lightly built with a wingspan of 4 feet. It wings are narrow and more pointed designed for high speed flight rather than soaring. The hierofalcon is brown on its upperside with a speckled or stripped white underside. The beak is dark with yellow eyes. This bird hunts other birds almost exculsively and will either strike them from a very steep dive of broadside. This is the bird of choice for mortal falconers and is very popular throught its entire range. Hierofalcons dwell primarily in the North and South but are becoming more widespread with their exportation to various courts.
Bubo
This owl is a large bird rivaling the eagles in size with a wingspan of 6 1/2 feet. Its wings are very broad and have special feathers which allow for silent flight even when flapping. Its plummage is a mottled brown, black and white all over, with Nothern bubos tending towards more white, Eastern bubos to more brown and bubos from Shadowlands to more black. This bird has large orange eyes and two tuffts of feathers resembling ears. These birds prey mainly on small creatures but can take prey the size of foxes and small dogs. Like the larger strix, the bubo is associated with death and ill fortune and is seen as a bad omen by many Northern and Eastern tribes.
Tyto
This owl is much smaller and lighter built with longer legs, than the bubo with a wingspan of only 3 feet. Like the bubo is has broad wings adapted to silent flight. Tytos feathers are are a cinnemon coloer on the upperside and white on the underside. The upperside feathers also have white spots with ash surrounds. This bird has small dark eyes and a smooth head. It hunts small rodents and reptiles. Tyto ranges across all of Creation and is generally seen as a beneficial bird as farmers can recognize the drastic increase in rodents when tytos are dirven off, usually in a mistaken fear of all owls.
Hamsa
This bird resembles a long necked duck with dark grey upperparts and underparts, a black neck with white markings on the cheeks and chin. Other colorations are present ranging from black with a white head and neck to all white. Its broad wings reach up to 6 feet across. Its webbed feet also make it very adept at swimming. The hamsa is a migratory bird travelling from its breeding grounds in the North to its wintering ranges on the Blessed Isle. These birds are herbivores but are very protective of thier young and will bite if threatened.
Anas
The Anas is the most common type of duck in Creation. It has a longish body with tapered wings. Its wing shape is similar to the hamsa but is only 3 feet. This bird comes in a wide range of colorations usually mottled brown with the males exhibiting some kind of irredescent coloration of the wings, head or both. The Anas has webbed feet and spend the majority of its time in the water. Some of the duck population is migratory depending on location, with the Nothern ones migrating to the Blessed Isle and ones in the other regions remaining all year. All domestic ducks are anas as well.
Crane
Passerine
This is a giant group of different kinds of birds. They are collectively range from small to medium with the largest passerines being no larger than a raven. Passerines come in a wide array of colors with a general trend of brilliantly colored males and subdued colored females. All of these birds have an elaborate vocal system which allows them to sing complex songs and mimic other sounds. These birds live in all four corners of Creation and many are common sights in even the most heavily settled areas, like the Crested Ember Tanager seen in Chiarascuro.
