Eorich
Eorich woke. It was night again. The moon was just rising and almost full, visible through
the wide entryway to the den of fallen trees that he had slept in during the day. He
shuddered, and tried to shrink further back into the wooden shelter. The full moons were
always the worst. It called to him, the pale silver light stirring something in his breast,
sparking a tension and an urgent need to act. The full moon always meant bloodshed.
Eorich just wanted to sleep, but he was hungry. He tried to remember the last time he had
eaten, but couldn't, and this made him glad. The hunger always brought with it the memories
of blood, of some small thing bursting in his jaws or under his rending talons. He whimpered.
Sometimes the small things were people. Back in his old life, before his 'blessing', he would
have given anything for the power to break free. It occured to him then, as it occured so
often to him, that he had.
Hunger pains wracked him, and an animal growl escaped his lips. Eorich could feel his flesh
shifting restlessly, impatient to respond to the moon and the hunger and the promise of
violence. Was it meant to be like this? When the woman had come down from the sky and turned
him from runaway slave into mighty beast-god, had she meant to reduce him to this crumpled
wreck? The hunters had been there so quickly, it was all he could do to escape. He had slain
them, one by one, over the next few days, learning about his magic. He had felt so powerful
then. Unstoppable.
But more came, and pursued him, and these were wary and powerful. He fled. He fled farther
and faster than they could run, not stopping for food or water or sleep in the long run that
he had made so many times since then. He had seen fantastic creatures, strange and wonderful
flora, and more trees and snow than he had ever wanted to. The goddess hadn't spoken to him
again, just left him to slowly and steadily lose control as his body began to warp around
him. Thoughts of the run made his legs begin to change, adopting the sleek form of a hunting
cat's. Thoughts of the fighting threatened to tear away control of his entire body - Eorich
could feel the muscles in his arms swelling and the bones shifting. Vestigial claws eased
their way painlessly through his fingertips, lightly dimpling his skin where he hugged
himself as he desperately tried to will himself calm.
"Was it meant to be like this?!" he shouted at the moon, feeling his lips pull back along a
slightly lengthening muzzle as he let the anger take a little control. "What did I ever do to
you?!"
The moon didn't reply. It just crept its way into the sky, tugging insistently at him.
Come out to play, it said. Be the predator. Fight, eat and mate. And Eorich
knew that somewhere in the secret places of his heart that he enjoyed the simple, violent
life that the curse had given him. Give in, the moon seemed to say. It's so much
less painful if you just let it happen...
Eorich screamed in frustration, refusing to give in to the bestial lures. His body shuddered
with repressed emotion, flowing like melting snow. He had survived slavery. He had survived
the hunt and the flight through the forest. He would survive the curse. He just had no idea
how.
Hans glanced up as the distinctive noise, somewhere between a howl and a scream, cut through
the forest, then looked at his companions.
"Sounds like our god's on the move again," he said, climbing to his feet and stretching.
"Let's see what he brings us today."
Underneath a thick layer of dirt, Eorich has the pale skin of a northerner and the natural
colour of his long, matted hair is medium brown. He is wiry and athletic, his muscles
smoothed over by a layer of insulating fat, and wears the tattered remnants of clothes he
takes from his victims.
When he transforms into his war form, Eorich's chimerical nature becomes obvious. At various
points over the years his totem has been wolf, goat and puma, and his Deadly Beastman shape
combines aspects of all three. The majority is feline in appearance, speckled white and
brown, but his tail combines the flexibility of a cat's with the appearance of a wolf's. His
feet are canine paws instead of feline. His head is mostly goat-like, with a mane of white
hair caked with dirt. Two straight horns project from the top of his head. His eyes have
square goat pupils, but his muzzle is elongated and wolflike, with rows of vicious teeth more
suitable for flesh tearing than grazing.
Eorich's Tell is unusual: his saliva and blood seethe with raw chaos, and where they fall
things change. He can often be tracked by a trail of oddities left by his bodily
fluids, and can be identified by the warping of his clothes where he has sweated on them. He
seems immune to his own venom, but its deleterious effect on others has been proven.
