Unknown Soldier

<RyanL> The barracks are overcrowded with living flesh and the ghosts who feel like having some semblance of "normalcy". But you don't get to sleep in the barracks with them. Your compatriots can if they wish, but you've been passed off as more than mortal or a vain ghost. You're a newly recruited 'nemissary' in the Mask's army. All know that nemissaries require no sleep. They are above that, and <RyanL> they are a vital part of any undead army. The man the recruited you said so himself. <RyanL> You've been given your orders. Proceed to Juggernaut to begin your indoctrination into the Mask of Winter's army. With that your men have come with you. Unwilling to leave you with the wolves. They stay in step as they walk through the city streets and out the gate toward the massive figure that is Juggernaut.

  • Unknown keeps a brisk pace, a bit wary of what may await him there.
  • Unknown is proceeding to the Juggerant. (( Sorry about that. ))

<RyanL> The dead behemoth grows larger and larger as you get closer. It towers over you like a whole mountain range. Outside of its monstrous form hundreds of zombies and ghosts not on guard duty within Thorns march and drill in a mockery of life. Juggernaut is silent for now. The Mask of Winters will move it in time, but for now it rests. <RyanL> (( No problem. I assumed that's what you meant. )) <RyanL> A ghost dressed smartly in a uniform that looks well kept calls out to you, "Halt in the most glorious deathlord the Mask of Winters. What is your business? New recruits from the city?" <Unknown> "Halt to the most glorious. Yes. I am a new recruit. And these are my men."

  • Unknown moves his hands out towards them, "I hope you don't mind that they came along."

<RyanL> The man looks at you suspiciously for a moment and then grunts. "Good." he waves his hand nonchalantly. "No, no it's fine you brought them. The more the better we'll need all we can get in time." <RyanL> By this time the sky has grown fat with clouds and rain has begun to pour from the heavens and lightning touches the ground off in the distance. <RyanL> "We have tents set up, you can stay in one of them until you get assigned elsewhere." He studies you for a moment in the rain. "Got any experience?" <Unknown> "Plenty." <Unknown> "Mainly subterfuge and sabotage." <Unknown> "But I've cracked plenty of eggshells." <RyanL> He raises a single eyebrow. "Very well, I'll pass that up. Get goin' now before all the tents fill up too much. Should be someone coming by to getcha soon enough." <Unknown> "Alright. Does this person have a name?" <RyanL> "I dunno, who they'll send after you. We got several cap'ns looking for fightin' men." <Unknown> "Interesting. I wonder what breed of captains this will be..."

  • Unknown ponders it for a second.

<Unknown> "Well... Thank you." <RyanL> At this same moment a woman is screaming a house in the nice part of town and a man just died. Also a band of men skulk in the shadows of Thorns with rusty knives, swords and various other makeshift weapons.

Knife Cast in Shadow

<RyanL> The band of would be rebels wait for their new masters to arrive at the appointed place and time. The warehouses not far off. The three men from earlier are there as well. It has taken some time to gather the men but they are here. A rag tag bunch of misfits and thugs with a few 'valiant' warriors in the mix.

<RyanL> "Aye, I wouldn't see it any other way. I want to see if you can live up to your end of the deal." He acts as if he has more leverage than he truly has. <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> "here's the plan. I'll clear the way for your men to make into a few of the warehouses. You then loot or kill whatever you can. After taking two of the warehouses, we split up and head back to the rendevous point" <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> "Are there any questions?" <RyanL> The old man nods. He bounces from foot to foot and nervously kneads the sword hilt in his hands. "Ok, boys this is our chance to get back at that bastard." You can all of them are nervous most have probably never seen a real battle. you can tell the ones taht have.

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow says "Ok, let's go. Follow me." As he begins to exit the hideout and make his way down the alley towards the warehouses

<RyanL> The men creep behind you and out into the streets and alleyways outside. They try to remain quiet but the sounds they do make seem to echo for eternity.

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow looks about the perimeter of the warehouses once arriving at the scene and signals for the rest of the men to hold back a few paces as he investigates

<RyanL> The area around the warehouses has a few dozen guadrs patroling with another dozen stationed at various points around the buildings themselves. There are 3 warehouses in all with dozens of wagons sitting out in the open still laden with cargo. A couple dozen zombie workers go from wagons to warehouses moving the crates inside and out of the inclimate weather which hasn't left the city in days. <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> ((roughly how far am I from the warehouses?)) <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> ((this might be tougher than I thought ;) )) <RyanL> About 20 yards to the nearest.

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow orders the men to wait until he returns or if they hear the sounds of battle, and then he engages concealing distraction discipline and closes the gap between him and the warehouses

<RyanL> There are also various torches lining the main outside area where all of the wagons are just in case any mortal workers are outside. Some are lit, others have been extinguished by the rain, and still others have not been lit because why should the dead care. <RyanL> You move across the ground between your small group of rebels and the waarehouse your footfalls are silent and none seem to notice your passing. The patrols continue their march and the posted guards look out into the dark spaces without ever seeing you. <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> ((what kind of posted guards are there? in towers or posts of some kind or something?)) <RyanL> Just standing on the ground such as in front of an entrance and at corners. <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> ((like, here's my plan: sneak in, kill a single guard and hide his body. Then steal his essence using my fangs and activate theft of mein. Then go about a kill a few more that are on patrol hopefully not seen too much)) <RyanL> (( Ok, sounds good. Just describe. No need to roll. Yet. )) <ResplendantWeb> (( incidentally, to save the motes, if the target is dead for undre a minute you can still feed without fang use )) <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> ((ah, didn't know that)) <ResplendantWeb> (( ^_^ ))

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow makes a dash to sneak in past the patrol and be behind one of the corner guards and be behind him by a good 10 yrds

<RyanL> The guard does not notice you standing behind him. He continues to look out into the dark.

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow quickly looks about for other guards on patrol, and then silently removes a throwing knife from his bandoleer and draws a bead on the back of the guards neck

<RyanL> You do hear a rustling over in the direction you came. THough it quickl dies out. The guard snaps to when he hears it and takes a greater interest in that area of the world. He has a hand on a sword hilt but doesn't make a move other than that. <RyanL> The knife slams into the back of his neck and the man falls to the ground without a sounds.

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow quickly moves to the guard and drags his lifeless form back into the shadows. He then partakes in his sweet lifeblood flowing from his wound and activates theft of mien. After taking the form of his victim, he moves to the guard's previous post and looks about for the patrol and more guards

<RyanL> A patrol of two guards passes by you. Two ghosts, unfortunately, they say nothing to each other just go past. They weave in and out of the wagons and every once in a while stop and look around more thoroughly and then move again. <RyanL> Finally a pair of men pass by, flesh and blood. They are a few minutes behind the ghost patrol though their patrol is slightly differnet and closer to where the rebels sit than to the warehouse.

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow waits for the second patrol to pass, and then moves to shadow several yards behind them. He then pulls out two more throwing knives and prepares to strike

<RyanL> The men continue their patrol until the knives pierce their skin and end all semblance of life. Their bodies fall with a thud to the ground and that is that. Three guards down, a dozen or more to go.

  • Knife_Cast_in_Shadow signals for the men to advance and leads them back to where he slew the first guard

<Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> ((that is, if he can)) <RyanL> (( They can, though they may be seen. They aren't nearly as cool as you. )) <Knife_Cast_in_Shadow> ((I'll go ahead and risk it. I don't care about a few mortals that get killed)) <RyanL> (( Heh, ok. )) <RyanL> The group of 30 men cross the ground trying to stay low to the ground. One stumbles to the ground into a crate knocking it onto the ground and causing quite a racket. The patrol you saw earlier was just going around the building when this happened and have come running out into the main area once again.

Resplendant Web

<RyanL> A knock comes at your primary safehouse's door.

  • ResplendantWeb raises an eyebrow and motions for one of the dematerialized ghosts to go stick his head out and see who it is.

<RyanL> Outside stands the merchant that sold you the pottery with the hidden message written on the paperwrapping. Only his face shows, the rest of his body is covered in the blackest of black robes. His features have grown more angular but otherwise he is the same man. <ResplendantWeb> (( iiiiiiiiiiiinteresting )) <RyanL> (( Well, I hope so. :) ))

  • ResplendantWeb steps up and opens the door bowing slightly. "Welcome to my humble abode."

<ResplendantWeb> (( Incidentally, this is the place in the merchant’s district. The other one is nice and quiet and empty )) <RyanL> (( Yeah, I thought so. )) <ResplendantWeb> ((Plus, I figured Rain might need a private place for her, err, activities )) <Rain> (( *innocent whistle* )) <RyanL> The man does not bow back. He enters the house without further comment. His hood remains up covering his black hair. "You have done well in finding secure lodging.

  • ResplendantWeb closes the door behind him. "Uhh, yes. May I ask why you are here?"
  • ResplendantWeb ponders for a moment then sighs and unobtrusively allows the Essence Discerning Glance to overlay his sight.

<RyanL> He looks about the place as if appraising it. "Very nice." He looks at you again. "I am merely checking in on you, my favorite customer."

  • ResplendantWeb merely cocks his head in further inquiry. "Do you bear another message as well?"

<ResplendantWeb> "I am still here, at any rate. Trying to find my niche in the city and so forth. Has another caravan arrived from home?" <RyanL> "No." He seems less interested in you and more interested in your dwelling. <ResplendantWeb> "Ok, so was there something I could help you with?" <RyanL> "As I said, I have been asked to check on you and the others by the Lady. She is worried about you." He seems perplexed for a moment. "I don't know why." <ResplendantWeb> "Hmm. Well, I don't think we've been here long enough to get into trouble." <RyanL> "yet, but you will, in time." <ResplendantWeb> "Of course. The question is whether we will be causing the trouble or not."
