− | == Background ==
| |
− | Born to an affair between a priest in Sijan and the god of a breed of cats, Sanura's birth, growth, and for the most part, life was to be kept a tremendous secret. She remained in her mother's sanctum for most of her youth, tended to and taught by her mother's servants, and generally kept from most of the world. The affair was part of a greater plan, to ensure that her mother's breed was inducted into Sijanese funerary rites and temple procedures as a holy guardian over the dearly departed. Given their propensity for hunting corpse-chewing mice in the halls and tombs, this wasn't that far-fetched, and as the cats turned from a novelty to a minor religious fixture in Sijan, her mother's power grew.
| |
− | Attentive in her studies, the clever young girl was most enthralled by stories of battles, battles between the Exalted, battles of the Primordial War. She studied the classical games emulating warfare, read accounts of strategy and tactics during her breaks, and hung on every account and word. Her studies elsewhere were a bit lax, but acceptable.
| |
− | Her residence in her mother's sanctum came to an end when one of the visiting tutors accidentally made mention that a renowned general was visiting Sijan to oversee the funeral of a friend. She slipped a favorite book into his bag during the lesson; after the priest excused himself, she made a show of searching for the book, then asked one of her caretakers to please let her go get it from the priest; expecting she'd be insufferable without the book, the little god opened the sanctum to let her out.
| |
− | Her first breath of the air of Sijan, heady with herbs and incense, nearly overwhelmed her. The pale girl made her way out, swiping a priest's robe from a drying line and making her way down in, getting directions to the procession - claiming an important missive had been left for the general and overlooked. She made her way down to the funeral proceedings, the common folk kept at bay and prevented from approaching, but with her disguise she was let through. She waited for the right moment, maneuvering around the priests and catching up to the brilliant Solar general, getting his attention - she tried to ask him for a word in private, but her enthusiasm overran her, and she began asking questions about the strategy and tactics she'd read about, eyes wide with awe, the brilliant green sigil blooming on her forehead illuminating the room.
