Born in the city of Great Forks to the infamous and powerful God-Blooded crime lord Sebastion, Lily grew up into a life of privilage and wealth. Sebastion was a doting, but demanding father, and he insisted that she grow up to become the successor to his vast underworld empire. With the death of her mother in childbirth, there was little she could do but to accede to her father's demands, and so she spent the majority of her life studying under various tutors. She traveled to meet her father's rigorous educational demands. She wintered in Icehome, summered in Chiaroscuro, and spent a season in Nexus learning the intricacies of the politics, assassination, and the way they intermingle.
It was in Great Forks however that she learned her last lesson. Her final tutor had become infatuated with the boss' daughter. During the course of one of her many daily lessons, he opened up to her about his love, and when she rebuked him, he attacked her.
When Lily woke up, she was surrounded by a pillar of blue and black fire, and the lustful tutor lay in a bloody, broken heap nearby. As her father's men stormed in and brought her to Sebastion, a cold plan formed inside the wicked crime lord's head. She would become his killer, an anathema assassin capable of entering even the most impregnable fortresses unnoticed. Lily, however, had other plans. Given her sudden influx of power, she finally had the ability to refuse her father's demands. Late into the night, she fled the city of Great Forks for Nexus, seeking to make her own way in the world, and to shun the murderous arts her father drilled into her.
Along the way to Nexus, Lily was plagued by a strange and terrifying dream. In her dream, she stood in a dark, underwater cavern, beneath the mighty Yanaze. Standing near her was a figure wrapped from head to toe in black silk and utterly featureless. He spoke to her, in an ancient, chilling voice, and told her of their ancient rivalry. He pointed to a pair of statues, one of a man who had once bore Lily's shard, and one of a woman who once bore the shard of the black clad stranger. Lily was wracked by painful memories of that ancient rivalry, which had carried on over the course of several lifetimes and even now, in the ruin of the Second Age existed. Lastly, the man, who called himself the Nemesis Wrapped In Black Silk, handed her a pair of wicked-looking sais. "You are a child, with an adult's ability. When you have truly matured, and mastered the use of those very formidable weapons I have crafted for you, I shall come. And then we shall settle, for once and for all, which among us is the better. You had best claim this manse, and the hearthstone and artifacts it bears. You'll need it." When Lily awoke, she found herself inside that self-same manse, with a pair of curious, evil-looking, black tatoos on her wrists, and a hearthstone amulet around her neck with a Freedom Stone inside it.
Lily quickly mastered the use of those sais, somehow knowing that they and she were inexplicably bound to each other. Eventually she made it to Nexus, where to her frustration she found that the only work she could find was in the very field that she had sought to flee, that of killing for money. As such, it was to her great relief when, as she was assigned to kill an inconvenient rebel, she met Angelo, and agreed to join his circle as they sought to counter the Mask of Winters.
