The Alabaster Beacon Of Destiny Style

Designed in the later days of the First Age by a Sidereal advisor to a Solar god-king who wished to learn a martial arts style that emphasized what he considered his rightful place in Destiny, the Alabaster Beacon is not a frequently practiced style. Relying as it does upon a declaration of supremacy, few Sidereals wish to reveal themselves so openly to the fabric of fate, and no one else lives who might learn it.

Still, a few Sidereals still practice the style, generally members of the Gold Faction, and if the time comes to teach the Sidereal Martial Arts to Solars once again, this may be one of the first styles to return to prominence in the world.

Alabaster Beacon does not allow weapons or armour, with a single exception: when a character purchases the first Charm on this tree, they may choose a single Melee or Martial Arts weapon, or a single type of armour, and treat both the mundane and artifact equivalent of that weapon or armour as allowed for the style.

There once was a Maiden...

The character reaches into the weave of the Tapestry, and makes of herself a hero. While this Charm is active, the character is a shining emblem of heroism. When engaging in a one-on-one Presence roll, she adds her target's Compassion to her Presence die rolls, and her opponent substracts his Temperance from his own rolls. In addition, she adds her target's Valor to all attack rolls, and anyone attacking her reduces their attack pool by their Conviction.

... who by her actions proved herself a hero...

Destiny does not allow the hero to fail when he sets his mind to a task. Whenever the character channels a Virtue to assist them on a roll, the target number for the roll is reduced by 1.

... she never wavered in her resolve, never failed...

So great is the power of the character that Heaven itself intercedes to prevent failure. When this Charm is activated, the character gains a pool of rerolls equal to his Essence. These rerolls may be used exactly as per the Third Excellency, with three exceptions: they do not count as Charm use, they may be used on actions that have been enhanced by another Excellency, and if the character channeled a Virtue on the original roll, all Virtue dice are transformed into automatic successes on the reroll. The Charm lasts until all of these reflexive rerolls have been spent, at which point it dissipates. The character may only have up to his Essence in rerolls stacked at a time.

... and so great was her fury...

The essence of heroism lies in the self. As the character prepares to strike an opponent, she gathers her spiritual resolve to her self before striking with the righteous fury of the prepared. The character adds her highest Virtue to her attack die pool, adds her second-highest Virtue to her damage pool, reduces her target's DV by her third-highest Virtue, and reduces the Speed of her attack by her lowest Virtue (to a minimum of 2.)

... that no Villain could stand against her.

The character shifts her Essence into the pattern of the Alabaster Beacon, the perfect ideal of heroism in the imperfect Second Age of Man. The character increases all of her Virtues by 1; this provides an extra Virtue channel in every Virtue, which is spent before other Virtue channels. In addition, everyone within (the character's Essence x10) yards of the character increases all of their Virtues by 1; this does not provide an extra Virtue channel. Finally, the character does not have to spend Willpower to channel Virtues; all other rules regarding Virtue channeling apply as normal.

No dark magic could hold against her perfection...

A true hero is not restricted by the magics of others. For the duration of the scene, any magical effect that would apply an internal or external penalty to the character's actions has the applied penalty reduced by the character's lowest Virtue. The reduces multiple applications of the same Charm multiple times.

... no person could bring themselves to strike her in her majesty...

The character glows with the purity of the true hero, and his power resonates in the hearts of those that he faces. Anyone wishing to strike the character must fail a Compassion roll to do so, and anyone wishing to defend against the character's attacks must fail a Valor roll to do so - this is rolled for each attack. This is considered unnatural mental influence, but Willpower cannot be spent to resist its effects; only Charms that protect against unnatural mental influence can be used.

... her very enemies turned to allies when she was in danger...

All who live feel the need to defend the character. The character activates this Charm when targeted by any effect with a physical component - usually an attack, but certain Charms, spells or natural disasters may qualify. She then chooses another character within (Essence x2) yards. The chosen character must fail a Conviction check, or else put herself into the path of the attack, making herself its target. In addition, she must fail a Temperance check, or else she may not apply PDV or DDV to the attack. This is considered unnatural mental influence, but Willpower cannot be spent to resist its effects; only Charms that protect against unnatural mental influence can be used.

... and because her deeds were the stuff of myth...

The prowess of the character cannot be doubted. For the duration of the scene, if she rolls fewer successes on any roll than her (highest Virtue + lowest Virtue), she is considered to have rolled a number of successes equal to her (highest Virtue + lowest Virtue). This increase applies to ALL die rolls, and applies during the reroll step of attack resolution. It may not grant more successes than the base die pool of the roll; any extra successes are lost. It is a perfect effect.

... the stories of her glory...

The character gains power through affirmation of herself. Whenever she defeats an opponent, she may automatically choose to regain either one lost health level (bashing, lethal, or aggravated), one spent Willpower, or one Virtue Channel. This is a permanent effect. If the target has a higher Essence score than the character, she may regain one each of all three. If the target's Essence is half of the character's or lower, she regains nothing.

... could never die.

A true hero is an idea, as much as a man, and an idea cannot die. When the character is reduced to Incapacitated or killed, she may reflexively activate this Charm, even if she has already activated a Charm in this action. When this Charm is activated, the character immediately recovers all spent Willpower, all lost Health Levels, all used Virtue Channels, and all Essence that is not committed. In addition, she may cancel the effect of any and all ongoing Charms that target her.

However, this Charm has a heavy price. Every action, the character takes one level of aggravated damage and loses one temporary Willpower. If she cannot spend Willpower, she loses 5 motes of Essence. If she is out of Essence, she takes an extra level of aggravated damage. When the character is reduced to Incapacitated, or if the scene ends, she loses all remaining Willpower, Essence, and Virtue Channels and is rendered unconscious.

The character may not activate this Charm if she has any damage remaining that was caused by a prior activation of this Charm. In addition, the Willpower spent to activate the Charm is considered committed, and no effect may prevent it being spent. It remains committed until the character heals all aggravated damage created by this Charm.
