The Old Man wasn't always, well, an old man. He was a delzhani barbarian who only ever visited the City once, and for whom the Tri-Khan was a myth in the same league as the Az-Khan. Taken into slavery in his first raid, sold to the Guild after being no good to his capturers, and then on-sold to the Dragonblooded sorceror Nellens Khaitain Samatra when he proved physically weak and mentally acute, he begun the worlds worst apprenticeship. Which is to say he was taught exactly what he needed to know to clean the Blood Ape pens without being eaten and to read texts to his master while he read something else (DB multitasking capability rocks as it turns out). He was used as an overseer of the other slaves building the Masters manse, and developed basic skills in manse design, giving orders and investigating problems. | The Old Man wasn't always, well, an old man. While I won't type up a proper background entry while this damn drunk, I will post a gist so Argent an use it in his if he wants, so the GM can plot and scheme (to reward me with cool stuff of course, with no downsides ) and so forth. By the by, the nature I didn't list- Visionary
After sixty years of this, his master, obviously still in his prime, grew bored with this slave. He had found a ritual in which the eyes of one who could read Old Realm and the heart of a virgin could summon and bind a SecondRipvanMason/Third (whichever fits this games desired scale better) demon, and he had a perfect way to use his "property".
The demon was summoned, the eyes were taken horribly. The demon appeared, and the Old Man escaped in a panic, fleeing into the desert. He wandered and wandered until he was lying their, dying of thirst, and a vulture came to perform the coup de'tate. Suddenly, he realised (mystically) that even the sun, the very force that was killing him, was not without mercy, but it had to be earned. So he dragged himself to his feet, and stared at the sun. Easy enough for a guy without eyes, of course, but somehow, he saw the light anyway. This light filled him, and has never been lost, an undepletable resource. This light seemed to command him to let all men realise their dignity and to never abandon his dignity again. He was Exalted. His eyes grew back in this process, but to symbolically show that he could live without even his gods pity and was strong enough to live the life he had earned so far, he gave the eyes to the now-bleached vulture beside him, and remained blind. He'll get his eyes back when he kills the demon that took them...
Over the next fourteen years, he built a manse on the spot he was exalted, stone by stone. He practised sorcery, hunted lizards, found water through vibrations in the earth and preached the glory of light and human dignity to anyone who approached. One such man, a collection of dune people savages on their trial on manhood found him. His preaching on the glory of the sun and the dingity their people should reclaim converted them to a man. Because the Old Man refuses to fight, they have titled him the Pentras Khan- the Peaceful Ruler- and serve and protect him from any harm in complete, and creepy silence.
