Just and Glorious Purge

from the writings of Chaste Smile, Twilight caste of the Scavenger Lands

Another lead ends in ashes and rubble long since wiped from the face of Creation by the cursed Realm and its Immaculate Order. So much was lost when the Dragon-Blooded rose against us. We had become vain and horrible, this I can see, but what was their excuse for all the destruction that they inflicted? Works of sorceries, great monuments that stood as wonders, lost texts that spoke on myriad subjects -- all gone, all vanished from the face of Creation forever, and for what purpose? Did they fear us so much that even the wonders we had crafted held danger in their eyes, or was merely the reminder that we had once reigned over Creation too much for them to bear? Maybe we had grown prideful, and maybe there was no choice but to kill us. But to kill an age?

What excuse is there for such a thing?

It is perhaps this reason, along with the crafting of lies and half-truths, that makes me hate the Immaculate Order with such a fury. They even have the gall to refer to it as the 'Just and Glorious Purge'. What purge can be just and glorious, and what kind of madman calls the destruction of so many wonders anything but a needless tragedy? The fact that they killed us, murdered us really, that I could perhaps forgive. But to mislabel us demons, as if in defense of their deed, and destroy everything our hands once touched...

The Short-sighted and Idiotic Purge (as I prefer to call it) lasted for several centuries after the Usurpation, continuing throughout most of the early days of what was called the Shogunate. How much was lost in those times? I know that the Purge targeted especially monuments and works from the time of the Grand Solar Monarchy and the Night Sable Empire -- the golden age of our civilization, and the tumultous days before it's final fall into inescapable corruption and final slaughter... punctuated between by the warning... the reign of Jubilant Willow, great forewarning of the coming corruption.

It finally ended when the Dragon-Blooded realized that they were plunging themselves into a dark age by destroying that which we had created, and began hoarding and collecting goods rather than destroying them. Of course, by that time, it was too late.

(Ed's Note: Chaste Smile's appalling ignorance of the sorcerous traps and horrible dead-man's switches on many of the wonders of the First Age is somewhat disturbing, and while much of her presentation is correct... much was lost needlessly... the Purge was not as pointless as she prefers to think of it. I have attempted to educate her on this matter, but she remains convinced that it's 'Immaculate Propaganda'. -- Franze, Chosen of Secrets)
