I think there's a contingent of gamers out there who regard any kind of personality/virtue/morality mechanics as antithetical to "good roleplaying." For my own part, I've yet to ever see Exalted's Virtues limit roleplaying in any way or dictate player behavior, and my game's been improved by their presence. Much like Fading Suns opposed Spiritual Attributes, they don't so much limit options as encourage roleplay, which is the most I can ask for stats of any kind.
