These paired grimcleavers are works of wonder. Forged around an orichalcum haft, each one-handed axe bears a golden head with a moonsilver blade, and moonsilver runes are etched carefully into the axe's head. The runes, if the two axes are placed opposite one another, tell the tale of the Lunar warlord Onyx Sky, whose battle against the Primordials broke the back of a great push by the servants of Adorjan and allowed his Solar companions to bind her fetich soul. The craftsman of these axes was Shogar of the Waning Moon, a member of the victorious Circle, who drew on the inspiration of his companion's fury in order to craft these mighty artifacts.
Shogar kept the artifacts for many years, using them to great effect against the enemies of Creation. However, he grew increasingly discontent with the horrors that he witnessed, and feared ever-more for the safety of his Solar mate, Malic. When the Usurpation occured, Malic called out for Shogar to defend him, and the Lunar hesitated. By the time his love and friendship with his comrade overcame his concerns, Malic was dead. Shogar arrived in time to snatch the Solar's corpse from the Dragon-Blooded and Sidereal who slew him, flying away with it. He laid his axes on Malic's corpse, burying him in secret, and then vanished into the Wyld. The axes have not been seen since, and the location of Malic's tomb is unknown.
A character may attune to a single axe as a normal grimcleaver, for 5 motes, or to the pair for eight motes. In addition, Solars and Lunars who attune to the artifacts add an additional +2 Accuracy and +2 Defense to each axe. However, to gain the full effect of Heaven's Storm, a character must harmonize fully with both axes. If they do so, as long as they are wielding both axes, the character may make free counter-attacks with their full die pool against an attacker. Each axe may do this once per action, and all normal rules for counter-attacks apply, with one exception: if the counterattack kills or incapacitates the attacker, their attack is cancelled. In addition, the character does not suffer off-hand penalties while using these axes paired.
Each axe has a single hearthstone setting.
