These snakes have very broad heads with small eyes with vertical pupils. The scales are keeled and form horglass patterns on the body consisting of light and bark brown patterns the body is thickly built. Copperheads are semi aquatic and prfer to live near a source of flowing water. Their venom in painful but nonfatal and most will dry bite a human sized opponent first in an effort to dirve them off.
