Steel Paw Style: This charm now gives you an automatic disarm attempt, if you successfully block a lethal attack barehanded.  We'll raise the cost to 2 motes, since the charm is slightly more useful, but otherwise leave it alone.  The visual is quite easy: use the charm, disarm an attack with your barehands, and send the weapon flying off!  It requires a dice action, but otherwise is somewhat like a low-essence version of the Earth DB charm that breaks or disarms weapons if you successfully parry.

The lunar shapes her hand into hardened implement, allowing her to block a single lethal attack (even if unarmed) or make an unarmed attack do lethal damage. The basic knowledge behind this charm allows it to be used in place of Body-Weapon Technique and Tool Hand Technique as a prerequiste for charms that require them. The training for this charm emphasizes making split second shape alterations to adapt to the type and style of incoming attacks, providing two extra dice for parrying attempts.

Official Version

This charm allows the character to make a single block against a lethal attack, even if unarmed, and is reflexive. Lunar, page 161.

CrownedSun's Version

Steel Paw Style: This charm now gives you an automatic disarm attempt, if you successfully block a lethal attack barehanded. We'll raise the cost to 2 motes, since the charm is slightly more useful, but otherwise leave it alone. The visual is quite easy: use the charm, disarm an attack with your barehands, and send the weapon flying off! It requires a dice action, but otherwise is somewhat like a low-essence version of the Earth DB charm that breaks or disarms weapons if you successfully parry.

Wordman's Version

The lunar shapes her hand into hardened implement, allowing her to block a single lethal attack (even if unarmed) or make an unarmed attack do lethal damage. The basic knowledge behind this charm allows it to be used in place of Body-Weapon Technique and Tool Hand Technique as a prerequiste for charms that require them. The training for this charm emphasizes making split second shape alterations to adapt to the type and style of incoming attacks, providing two extra dice for parrying attempts.

Notes on my Reasonings:

  • First, I'd like to note that I disagree with the notes that this charm should be gotten rid of and this sub-tree folded into some other tree. Rather it's the shapeshifting tree, or the unarmed attacks charm (though there might very well be a similar charm there). That gets way too far into the 'rewriting the Lunar charm chapter' angle for me. The option of choice here is to rewrite the charm to be useful, NOT to change the entire way that Lunar charm trees work.
  • Second, the main problem here is that this is a DB charm and a Celestial has it. That's not really acceptable, so we've got to boost the power level a little bit and make it a slight bit more powerful. I haven't thought this out yet, so this is not a final answer -- just a plee at moving the topic in the correct direction (fixing, rather than rewriting). So, my suggestion! If you don't like it, suggest something else, and let's see if we can fix it. Alternatively, I put a voting thing for "merge the trees" too.

- CrownedSun

I'm game. This is a perfectly reasonable alternative to my idea. - SMK

Morpheus, could you please explain yourself? Merge which trees? My vote is to replace it with Body Weapon Technique. ^_^ -- BrokenShade

Exactly. I'd make Body Weapon Technique able to allow the lunar to either deal lethal or block lethal for an instant. - Morpheus
