How character stats are determined in The Broken Sky are somewhat different than in, say, every Storyteller game since the original World of Darkness. Instead of the standard set of Attributes and Abilities, characters have three general Attributes (Physical, Mental and Social) and six Aspects. Attributes have a general rating from one to five dots (normally), and Aspects rate from zero to five.

*Interaction. This covers how the character interacts with the actual tangible world around him, how the character's mind processes (and possibly influences) outside matters, and how the character deals with interpersonal relationships of the non-martial sort.

** Getting a feel for your surroundings in order to try and track a bandit would be Physical Interaction.

** Pausing to try and remember the signifigance of how things are placed in the area you've patrolled (perhaps it's a place of power?) would be Mental Interaction.

** Taking the time to get the object of your temporary affections out of their clothes and into your bed would be Social Interaction, although the initial contact might have been Physical Artistry if you were working what your mother gave you.

*Understanding. This covers that which the character knows through sheer instinct and physical repetition, though long hours of study and through getting to know to read and understand other beings.

** Instinctual acts, like how to properly use 'simple' (in that they would hurt someone who didn't know how they handled) tools, are Physical Understanding.

** Calling up the entire family tree of a not-too-well-known lord would be Mental Understanding, and also probably somewhat boring for those listening.

** Remembering and properly applying the customs of an island nation would be Social Understanding.

*Artistry. This covers the artistry (be it beautiful or raw) of the body, the infinite creativity of the mind, and the capabilities of the performing (and... other less open) arts.

** Raw athletic might falls under Physical Artistry.

** Dreaming up, and then building a grand device of some sort is Mental Artistry.

** The perfect song, the right set of words, the well-placed shake of a hip... all these fall under Social Artistry.

*Elusion. This covers avoiding physical detection, applying the mind to avoid tricks and traps, and slipping out of the vice-grip of embarrasment and other worse social issues.

*Durability. This covers the strength and tenacity of the body, mind and ego.

*Conflict. This covers the ways of warfare, be it on the actual field of battle, preparing for war, or learning of your opponent by using more than your blade.
