Orphen/Orphen

From Exalted - Unofficial Wiki

This page will probably remain uncompleted for...well...ever. Orphen is a character in a very long run game. As I have mentioned elsewhere BronzeTiger and I run a joined world and have for 5 or 6 years now...In this world have been at least 4 Solar games, 2 Dragon-Blood games and an Alchemical game. Occasionally someone else will ST a game there for a time.

To most people in this world Orphen is a mystery an annoyance an impossibility an ally an arch-nemesis a force of nature or any number of other colourful adjectives. Those who know him best have vastly different opinions. And truth be told he doesn't know all the details. What Orphen is, is a legend.

It was once said that Lilias is the greatest healer in all of Creation, that Cirrus is the greatest sorcerer, and that Dagnir and Erys are the greatest thieves, but Orphen can do anything.

Sometimes it is the story that matters.

One cannot tell one’s own story or offer an unbiased opinion. But others can speak for and of him.

A memory or a thought, an opinion or an insult.

“The truest friend I have ever had, and the person I understand the least.”

  • Cirrus “The Sky’s Breeze”

“He might have a few things on me, but at least I don’t have Transcendent Dream Suck.”

  • Erys “The Prince of Rogues”

"I know him better than anyone, which is to say I can't perdict him in the least."

  • Dagnir

“I do not envy him, for he is not who I want to be, but I do envy his name as it is as synonymous with legend as I hope mine will one day be.”

  • Rippling Tide

“He helped me and my circle once when we were in great need, and I am pretty sure he would help me again despite the fact that I am no longer a part of it, and that itself speaks volumes of his character.”

  • Martyr’s Dream of Oblivion’s Last Cry the 14th Deathlord

“Hey, Mom! …Okay I’ll stop now.”

  • Dagnir, King of Thieves, Self-Proclaimed as Orphen’s Greatest Invention

“I have spent more time with Orphen than, I think, anyone else in Creation; and you know what, as time goes by less and less words are suitable to describe him.”

  • Tirian Fordring

“As strong as a tiger, as resolute as a bull, as crafty as a spider, as predatory as a wolf, and as clever as a falcon. In the North he is a Behemoth, in the East a wandering God, in the South they believe him to be a Fair One, and the Sun only knows what the West thinks of him, so is it any wonder none know exactly what he is.”

  • Cirrus “The Sky’s Breeze”

“He is still an Anathema to me, but he has opened my eyes and made me question what exactly an Anathema is.”

  • Cynis Devonah Avaku

“A meddling old man some call him, HAH, Orphen is as much of a kid as me.”

  • Rippling Tide

“You’d think you’d know someone after having tea and cookies inside your head with them? Oh no, he’s still one of the biggest mysteries of Creation.”

  • Ryoko

“The man gets to be a child at heart and a legend in the eyes of Creation, what more can one want?”

  • Tirian Fordring

“One of the few people I can stand in a room with and not be the weird looking one.”

  • Erys “The Prince of Rogues”

“Ack! Its that scary guy from the party!”

  • Ender Aratam

“If there were ever one man I’d take with me to the end of the world, it’d be Orphen… and I did.”

  • Dagnir

“If asked whether I loath or like him my answer would vary depending on the decade, but I’m unsure if that’s due to my nature or his.”

  • Nadia

“Traveling with Orphen is a bit like standing in front of an angry Furnace Rhino.”

  • Aerin

“Orphen has taught me two important things: to hate the Sidereals and what it means to have a stalwart friend.”

  • Nadia

“Of all those in Creation I hate him the most, and I know not why?”

  • Cecelyne “The Endless Desert”

“He is the epitome of what this New Age needs. How do I know this you ask? Because he is my opposite.”

  • R.E.M “He Who Dreams of Heroes”

“Who?”

  • The Bronze Faction

“He is the only man who has ever tricked me, and I hate and love him for it, for he has both freed me and taken away my greatest prize.”

  • Raksi “The Queen of Fangs”

“He once threatened to paint the dawn red with my blood, so I hope you can understand why I don’t like him, but also why I would never say it to his face.”

  • The Vampire who Haunts your Childish Nightmares

“He is both an annoying figment and a real nuisance.”

  • The Green Lady

“I once killed Orphen while he and I were having a philosophical debate. He repaid the favor by promptly proving I didn’t exist.”

  • Dagnir

“We changed the face of our school because of him, but that pales in the way that he has changed Creation.”

  • Rae Lyn, a Gold Faction Sidereal

“Oh I’ve met the man, even traveled with him for a time. He’s as crazy as a bird, but good to have around in a pinch… when he’s not throwing a temper tantrum.”

  • Zachary

“He is my little brother, what more is there to say?”

  • Azalea

You could summon that.
I don't push my luck.
You're not even in his city!
I don't push my luck.

  • Dagnir to Cirrus

“Though I can not claim to know him well, Orphen can stop by to visit anytime but he’d better keep his Fair Folk shit away from my daughter.”

  • Lilias Silva

“If Orphen ever suggests you take a vacation I’d recommend arming yourself to the teeth and hiring a medic.”

  • Aerin

“Orphen is like an Instant Messenger: unexpected, can be annoying, leaves without a trace, and really really useful in the long run.”

  • Ryoko

“He knows I’m a predator so outfits me as such, and showed me what it’s like to prowl the sky.”

  • Nadia

“I lived the deaths of a thousands of my brothers on his whim because he thought he had a lesson to impart. What would you think of him?”

  • Ragara Melo

“Isn’t he one of those fey demons?”

  • Lysander, One of the Legendary Solars

“I travel with Orphen because he’s the only person I know who thinks some of my ideas are good.”

  • Dagnir, King of Thieves, after stealing The Book of Three Circles

Certain of my acquaintances stole your books, now before we go any further I’d like to point out that they are currently in elsewhere and my death would only result in them being lost forever.

I am here to return them but understand my concern for those mentioned as well as myself without a bargaining chip. I will provide you with the books. I also swear me and mine will leave you and yours unharmed. In return I would ask a favour of equal measure in the future. Do we have an accord? Good. I thank you for your hospitality and take my leave.

One thing before I go…Raksi, Queen of Fangs it is the future and I would ask you a favour. I would like you to provide me with the Book of Three Circles and for you and yours to leave me and mine unharmed. Do we have an accord?
