Character Description

Age: 19

Appearance: Tall and athletic, Uriel looks very much like the Lord of Creation he is fated to be. However, it was not always this way. As a youth, he was much like the other boys his age - lean and good looking, but nothing extraordinary. Now, his shock of sandy blond hair appears golden and reflects the sunlight. His eyes, once a muddled mixture of blue and grey, now appear as a deep crystal blue. His training at Kether Rock has burned off every last ounce of fat, and he has a deep bronzed tan from long hours in the desert. Most women see him more as an object of worship than a man, and those who are made aware of his relationship with a mortal can become venemously jealous. Uriel's voice is soothing but direct, and people who speak with him feel suddenly as if they are the most important person in the world.

History: Uriel grew up as Krejek, a common enough name in the Scavenger Lands. His father, a citizen of Lookshy, taught him about the importance of being a good man in a bad world. Honest and hardworking, he served as a lawman in one of the minor cities in the region. Uriel grew up a good kid – attractive and intelligent, his life seemed planned out for him. He would study hard, and when he reached the age, would apply for citizenship and follow in his father’s footsteps. Fate, unfortunately, had other ideas. He was only weeks away from his exams when it happened.

Uriel exalted in his home, when it was assaulted by burglars. Being raised by a single father, he was the only one home at the time. He grabbed his blade and rushed down the stairwell, scared but having been trained by his father to be ready. The following was a blur. When the dust settled, he stood barefoot in a pool of blood, and four bodies lay strewn about the floor of his father’s modest apartment. The walls had been bleached a bright white by his anima. Terrified of his new powers and of the demon he had become, he decided to wait for his father to return. When he opened the door and saw his son, Reed felt his world come apart. Duty bound to a fault, he drew his blade and attacked his son with a cry that turned to a heart wrenching wail. Uriel struck his father down and dashed to the doorway. He looked back as his father, wounded, struggled to regain his feet. ‘I love you, father’ were the last words he said in the city of his birth. He ran terrified and alone into the night.

Thinking quickly on his feet, Uriel realized that the Ashigaru would be hot on his heels, and silently thanked the Dragons for his father’s recent reassignment out of the City proper. Running through the night, Uriel did the second thing in one night that his father would never forgive him for – he stole a horse. Galloping wildly into the night, he made for a tiny nearby village, planning to lie low until he could form a plan. He slept fitfully that night in a small roadside shrine, but woke with a start when he realized he wasn’t alone. Leaping to his feet and jerking his blade loose, Uriel made to defend himself. However, the figure in the shrine was not the grim mask of an Ashigaru special ops, but an attractive young woman with fiery red hair tied in a ponytail. She told him that she knew who he really was, and that she wanted to help. Uriel was dubious, but wanted more than anything for her story to be true. They left immediately.

What followed was a terrible chase through the outlying regions of Lookshy. Faced at every turn by armed troops and Gunzosha pilots, they moved fast and kept their heads low. Three and a half weeks later, they climbed a hilltop and approached a landmark, a great jade statue that was rumored to have been crafted in the First Age. Kestrel reached into her satchel and drew forth a small dagger, and cut her palm. The air in front of her shimmered, and she whispered a few words before it dissipated. Finally able to catch their breath, the two youngsters gazed into one another’s eyes, embraced, and made love under the stars.

Dawn broke, and an hour later a starmetal clad Exalt landed in an azure chariot and introduced himself to the fledgling Solar. Sweeping a deep and courteous bow, he inquired delicately if Uriel would like to accompany him to the life that he had been Fated to lead. Awestruck, and bolstered by the supportive eyes of his lover, he made the step that would change him forever.

When a new initiate arrives at Kether Rock, he is met by the inhabitants, in all their glory. There are no welcoming smiles, no embraces, and no pity. Uriel approached the massive gates by himself, Kestrel having been spirited away by the Celestial envoy. Terribly alone, he walked slowly into the massive courtyard and faced who were to be his brothers for the first time. One man stepped out of the pack, clad in jade armor, tapping the head of a white jade Goremaul slowly in his gauntleted palm. Confused, he was instructed to pick a weapon for his testing. Selecting a long, straight blade similar to the one his father bore for twenty years, he prepared to do battle. Uriel was summarily beaten within an inch of his life, and coughing blood was dragged into the citadel.

Nursed back to health, he was given a week to recover. He was confused at the self-satisfied smirks of his fellow inhabitants. Why were they snickering behind his back? It took only to the 8th day to find out. That day, his training begun in earnest. Enduring terrible physical trials and intensive combat training, Uriel was beaten down and dragged back up by his bootstraps every day for a year. Arena matches against demons, marathons in the desert sand barefoot, extended trials while heavily encumbered, the lengths they went to were extreme. Uriel took well to it, but spent many nights crying himself to sleep thinking about his father and the girl that had saved his life. Eventually, the training beat the tears out of him. He grew stronger. He grew more confident. By the end of that year, he was a well-tuned fighting machine, lean and powerful.

Uriel spent most of his second year at the Rock in the classroom. Learning battle tactics and strategy, logistics, politics, governance, and sorcery, he was inducted into one of the three secret societies of Kether Rock – the Architects. Styling themselves the ‘Architects of the Third Realm,’ these men and women become the foundation that the future is built on. Uriel’s natural intellect took immediately to the Arcanum, and was initiated into the ranks of the Cult battlemagi. He excelled in mathematics, and became adept at both logistical planning and basic architecture. He learned from his Sidereal teachers the arts of statecraft, and how to influence nations. In fitting with his society, he chose a new name for himself – Uriel, the angel of repentance as written in the Tome of the Nephilim. This represents, he feels, his regrets for his father and his wishes for the terrestrials who performed such a brutal and needless betrayal. At the beginning of his third year of training, Uriel was subject to an interview with none other than the master of the Rock herself, Maduka Shin. Five kneeling mortals, robed and veiled, surrounded her. She questioned his progress and critiqued his development with brutal honesty. Finally, she invited him to unveil each of the soldiers one by one. As he did so, each soldier revealed a secret close to her heart – a hero admired, a simmering hatred, a secret lover. The last mortal was Kestrel, whom he had not seen since his arrival at the Rock. As she looked up at him with unveiled adoration, his eyes snapped up to the master, who informed him that these soldiers were his to command, and that their lives are in his hands.

During their third year of training, students at the Rock are given more responsibility. Uriel was put in charge of logistics with outlying provinces, Maduka Shin having intentionally weakened the fortress by requiring them to trade for provisions. He engaged bandits, negotiated trade agreements, and mollified angry spirits. His charges all survived, as he took care to protect them, never wanting another loved one to suffer his father’s fate. Through multiple campaigns in the South, he developed close relationships with many of the Paladins of the Rock, no brothers being closer than those forged in battle. At his graduation, Uriel was given an incredible gift – the blade and armor of his First Age incarnation, a potent weapon indeed against the enemies of the light.

After graduating, Uriel was approached by Maduka Shin herself. She proposed a meeting between him and Ayesha Ura, a powerful agent of the Cult of the Illuminated and personal advisor to Shen Aru himself. He agreed, and was offered an amazing opportunity – as one of the quicksilver falcons, Uriel was able to learn the magic of the Sidereals, and would do so as a celestial messenger across Creation. Despite misgivings about leaving his tigers behind, he made it clear to them that he was not leaving forever, and accepted the post. Kestrel, refusing to be separated from him, was allowed to come along.

In his capacity as personal messenger of Ayesha Ura, Uriel traveled the length and breadth of Creation. He learned powerful sorceries to communicate with distant allies and travel great distances. He learned the potent magics of the Chosen of the Maidens, and liaised with some of the most powerful beings in Creation. He learned the languages of the Realm, and eluded pursuers there. In meeting after meeting, he learned the nuances of etiquette when dealing with gods and exalts.

Personality: Uriel is completely committed to the Cult of the Illuminated and the ideal of building the Third Realm. His personality puts these ideals on display for all to see - confident and commanding, he comes across as a lord among men. He credits the Cult for saving his life, and is tirelessly devoted to the service of mortal men and women through leadership. Despite his legendary prowess with a blade, he dislikes combat and will avoid it if at all possible. When forced to violence, he prefers to use Oathbringer to force his opponents to submit rather than killing them, feeling that every life lost is an opportunity wasted. While not technically a secret, Uriel keeps his personal life close and few outside his Tigers know of his relationship with Kestrel. Uriel cares about her deeply, but knows that love is a luxury leaders are rarely afforded.

Intimacies The Cult of the Illuminated, Kestrel, his Tiger Warriors, his father, Leading Responsibly.

Oathbringer •••
Orichalcum Daiklave

Oathbringer is an unmistakable instrument of Heaven. Made entirely of orichalcum, it is a massive double-edged blade well over five feet in length. Despite its size, it has a hilt for only one hand and sits comfortably in the Chosen's gauntleted fist. Moonsilver etchings at the base of the blade depict an angel in flight accompanied by a flock of doves. Fashioned in the years following the Primoridal War, it was designed as a tool for the quicksilver falcons to forge the empire that would become the First Realm. It performs its duties remarkably well.

Due to the purity of its composition and the prowess of the ancient Twilight who crafted it, Oathbringer wields far lighter than other blades of its kind and is a powerful defensive weapon, slapping aside lesser blades with disinterested scorn. However, its power does not end there. As a tool primarily of peace and diplomacy, Oathbringer prefers not to slaughter potential allies. By channeling 3 motes of Essence through the blade, an Eclipse wielding it can turn what would be a fatal blow to a more merciful, but possibly crueler, end. This ability, used after fatal damage is rolled, damages the target to Incapacitated with lethal damage and drains them of all Essence, bleeding it into swirling displays of Old Realm treatise. This leaves most beings completely helpless against the Lawbringer, who may do with the prisoner as he sees fit. In the First Age, this blade above all others was feared by the Raksha, as its powers of order stripped them of their chaotic natures and left them hollowed and forsaken, a fate far worse than death.

Iron Envoy Panoply ••••
Orichalcum Reinforced Breastplate
In the First Age, there were many ways to send a message. Sorcerous cherubim and magitech communications networks made most traditional messengers obsolete. However, if a high-ranking member of the Deliberative needed a message delivered with blinding speed and complete confidentiality, the consensus was clear - send the Iron Envoy.

No corner of Creation was out of reach of the Envoy, and this powerful suit of armor was one of the reasons. Crafted of orichalcum, it bears the symbology of the crowned suns and has straps crafted from the hide of the behemoth Kuro, the pitlord. The breastplate itself provides the wearer with great protection from normal attacks, and is virtually indestructible. The greaves, also crafted of the golden steel, allow the Lawbringer to walk on any surface, be it water, lava, or seas of maggots deep in the Wyld. The Chosen wearing them is also protected from fatigue, and will never tire.

The long gauntlets of the panoply are a powerful tool against the Fae, as eternal beings of incohate chaos tend not to take well to diplomacy. They provide the wearer with an internal bonus of +2 DV to shaping attacks. In addition, these powerful gloves allow the Lawbringer to tear to shreds with his hands things made of gossamer. This cannot be done in combat without a stunt, but out of it he may break lances and swords made of dreamweave as easily as he would a twig.
