Defense and Dissembling Charms

Blowfish Soul-Swelling Attitude
Cost: 2m, 0wp or 1wp; Mins: Manipulation 3, Essence 2; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious, Social, War, Emotion
Duration: One scene
Prerequisite Charms: Butterfly Eyes Defense

Manipulation is elegant and deceptive, but it need not be subtle. A Steward who invokes this Charm pours energy into her Essence, exposing her as a magical being of great power, though it is no more obvious than ever what sort of being she is. While Blowfish Soul-Swelling Attitude is active, the character's Essence appears to be two higher than its true value, and all beings who can detect the character can estimate her inflated power level at a glance. Charms like All-Encompassing Sorcerer's Sight and Measure the Wind are powerless to pierce this deception, but a character who can see Charms may be able to figure out what this Charm does (normally a difficulty 5 Intelligence + Occult roll). This Charm is Obvious only inasmuch as it bares the character's transcendent soul. It does not interfere with stealth.

The weak and servile are cowed by the character's awesome display of might. Beings with Essence 1 must make a Valor roll at difficulty 2 or they suffer a -2 internal penalty whenever physically or socially attacking the character due to fear and awe, and their mental DVs are reduced by one against his attacks. This aspect of the Charm is an unnatural Emotion effect; it may be ignored for the scene at a cost of one Willpower, but this does not allow the character to pierce the deception.

By spending a point of Willpower, the character can extend the illusion of supernatural potency to a military or social unit of Magnitude no greater than (Essence - 1). This increases the unit's effective Might by 1, to a maximum of 1. The unit does not actually become stronger, but its apparent power is enough to turn the tides of war.

Selective Intimation of Majesty
Cost: --; Mins: Manipulation 4, Essence 3; Type: Permanent
Keywords: Illusion
Prerequisite Charms: Blowfish Soul-Swelling Attitude

A wolf in the fold can trigger a panic. At times, the Steward may wish to avoid such a ruckus while still impressing the magnitude of his power on those in his way. This Charm permanently enhances the effects of Blowfish Soul-Swelling Attitude. By spending an additional three motes when invoking that Charm, he may choose to conceal its effects from everyone in the area except a chosen few, who can be specified as precisely as he cares to. The character rolls Manipulation + Stealth. Any character whose Dodge MDV he exceeds and whom he does not specifically exclude fails to notice the effects of Blowfish Soul-Swelling Attitude. Failing to notice the deception is an unnatural Illusion effect that can be resisted at a cost of two Willpower per scene. Spending the Willpower gives a character the privilege of being deceived by the Charm.

If Blowfish Soul-Swelling attitude is used in a Combo with no other Obvious Charms, Selective Intimation of Majesty hides the combo signature from those whom it affects. Otherwise, it does nothing to hide other blatantly supernatural traits, such as Lunar tattoos or an anima banner.

Friend and Foe Assumption
Cost: 5m, 1wp; Mins: Manipulation 5, Essence 4; Type: Simple (Speed 4)
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious, Illusion
Duration: One scene
Prerequisite Charms: Blowfish Soul-Swelling Attitude, Perfection of the Mockingbird

Being chosen as a Steward is a glory worthy of pride. At times, however, a Lunar may wish to don the mantle of some other supernatural denizen when walking among its kind. When she first learns Friend and Foe Assumption, the Lunar picks a broad category of supernatural being, such as "Ghost," "Elemental", or "Sidereal Exalted." She must have spent at least a week studying this type of being at some point in her life. Additional types of being may be bought for two experience points or one bonus point each.

For the duration of the Charm, the character can mimic all the being's cosmetic supernatural traits. She can display a caste mark or an anima banner of the appropriate type, and can mimic the appearance (if not the effect) of traits like armor plating and gliding an inch off the ground. These abilities are actually physically mimicked despite their lack of additional effect, so some traits, like being dematerialized, are simply impossible to imitate. The effect fails if the Lunar's anima banner activates at the 4-7 mote level or higher.

The deception this Charm generates is nearly impenetrable. It can't be pierced without either Essence sight or supernatural senses, and such attempts must match a difficulty of the Lunar's Manipulation.

Within the scope of this Charm, the character can fine-tune the features she produces, appearing specifically as a Water elemental, or a Sidereal of Mercury. She cannot significantly change his mundane features, however, so he cannot mimic a specific person, and if she attempts to look like a blood-ape while in her human form, the best he can do is look like a furred, bloodthirsty man surging with demonic malice. Due to their mastery of disguise and shapechanging, however, the Chosen of Luna are ideally suited to work around this limitation -- this Charm removes all penalties for trying or failing to imitate supernatural features of the appropriate type.

While Friend and Foe Assumption is active, the cost of Blowfish Soul-Swelling Attitude is reduced to 0m, 0wp or 0m, 1wp, as appropriate.
