The Making of a Totem

Totems are made with Mutations, that can be seen in Exaltted: The Lunars, Chapter Six. Mutations add to the totem's Mutation Cost; Taints subtract from the Totem's Mutations Cost. Mutations minus taints equal to its Total Cost in Mutation Points.

Mutations

    • Small, Tiny and Minuscule cost all 0 points for totems. Small adds 1 dice to Stealth rolls, Tiny adds 2, and Minuscule adds 4.
    • Small loses one -0, and one -1 Health Levels, Tiny loses one -0 and two -1 health levels, and receives one less health level per every Ox-Body purchased(only in the totem form, of course). Minuscule loses one -0, two -1 and one -2 Health Level, and receives two less Health Levels with every purchase of Ox-Body Technique(only in the totem form, of course)
    • Tiny also cuts Soak Mutations in half, and Minuscule, by 1/4 of its soak(rounded up)
  • Pox
    • Underwater, Gazelle’s Stride is only a pox.
    • Multiple Legs is only a pox.
  • Afflictions
    • Inexaustible and Tough are disallowed for the construction of Totemic Animals. Great endurance tends to be a purchase of Unsurpassed Excellence(Fatigue rolls), and Tough of Glorious Hero Form.
    • Toxin changes depending on the species - a poisonous snake, a coral snake, an arrow frog...
    • Glorious Hero Form may be changed slightly – instead of +1 to strength and stamina, the bonus might be +2 to strength OR +2 to stamina, to model specific animals that are simply stronger, or tougher. Same for Appearance and Charisma, and Intelligence and Perception. Wits, Manipulation and Dexterity have no extra options.
  • Blights
    • Armored Hide gives a soak of +6L/+6B
    • Multiple Legs is now a Pox
    • Poison Mastery, Concealment, Essence Channeler and Skin-Changer are disallowed for the construction of animals.

New Mutations

    • Excellence - Creates a specialty that stacks with other specialties and adds +2. 1 Mutation Point.
    • Might - Adds +1 to Strength or Stamina for 1 mutation point, or +2 to Dexterity for 2. Usually gives +1 to Strength and Stamina for 2.
    • Cunning - Adds +1 to Perception or Intelligence for 1 mutation point, or +2 to Wits for 2. Usually gives +1 to Perception and Intelligence for 2.
    • Allure - Adds +1 to Appearance or Charisma for 1 mutation point, or +2 to Manipulation for 2. Usually gives +1 to Appearance and Charisma for 2.

Taints

    • Atrophy is now considered a deficience.
  • New Deficiences
    • Dangerous – The animal is a dangerous or poisonous creature, and thus is not met with the usual disregard, negating the bonus a Lunar receives to sneak in his animal form.
  • New Debilities
    • Aquatic – The animal may not survive for long outside of water – it takes one die of bashing damage every five turns outside of it until it is dead. On land, it cannot move at a rate any faster than its dexterity, and must take an athletics action to do so, and can do no greater physical action.
    • Prey – The animal is not built to hunt and fight. Not only it cannot have natural weapons of any kind, but any kind of attack in the animal form receives a penalty of 3 dice.
    • No Manipulators – Exactly that. The animal cannot manipulate objects. Most animals posssess it, but those like Monkeys or certain forms of octopoids are an exception.
