Wood-Aspected Line Infantry Charms

By Alec Austin

These charms are intended as First Age Dragon-Blooded charms, created when the Dragon-Blooded were expected to fight as line soldiers and not lone heroes, reliant on the strength of the group.

Sky-Darkening Volley</b>
<b>Cost: None\\
Duration: Permanent\\
Type: Special\\
Min. Archery: 3\\
Min. Essence: 2\\
Prereqs: None

Exalted who possess this charm are skilled at firing in unison with each other, and together they can fill the sky with arrows. For each other character in their unit with Sky-Darkening Volley who is making an archery attack in a round, a character with this charm may fire an additional arrow as part of their normal dice action, to a maximum # of arrows equal to double the Rate of their bow. Each attack is rolled separately, and the character suffers a penalty to each attack equal to the number of additional arrows they choose to shoot (i.e. -1 if they are attacking twice, -3 if they fire four arrows, etc.)

Swift Recovery Prana</b>
<b>Cost: None\\
Duration: Permanent\\
Type: Special\\
Min. Medicine: 1\\
Min. Essence: 2\\
Prereqs: None

For every character in their fighting unit that shares this charm, a Dragon-Blood recovers more swiftly from their wounds. Divide their healing time by 1 + (# of characters with Swift Recovery Prana) to determine how long it takes for them to recover from injuries. Only characters in the same talon as the character or joined in a sworn brotherhood count for purposes of this charm, though they may be up to (Essence x5) miles away. Even if the character is on their own, their healing times are halved, as they always count as a member of their own unit.

Vengeful Huntsman Technique</b>
<b>Cost: 1 xp per bond established\\
Duration: Permanent\\
Type: Special\\
Min. Survival: 4\\
Min. Essence: 3\\
Prereqs: Hostile Environment Preparation Method, Quarry Revelation Technique

When a character who has been bonded to the Exalt possessing this charm dies, some measure of their strength enters the Exalt so that they may avenge their comrade's death. Those characters who had used this charm to bond themselves to the deceased may split the character's attribute, ability, and speciality dots between them, with each character gaining at most one point in each attribute or ability, to the normal maximum of 5. Note that the other character must allow the Exalted to bond themselves to them, and may negate the bond as a free reflexive action, making it impossible for characters to use this charm to profit from the murder of former friends. This Charm remains a popular one among some sworn brotherhoods, even in the modern day.

Not at all sure i like vengeful huntsman technique. It works as something that npcs do but for pcs it offers far too much advantage for the cost. It would allow for great adversary types: 8 surviving DBs from the first age, frozen until recently but now revived and on a rampage through the scavenger lands. Every time on is killed the others get stronger... but definitely not good for pcs - CorlanDashiva

I could see it working better, if it was just the Permanent Essence of the slain being distributed among the living. That was much more how it seemed in the Chronicles of Prydian (which, I presume is where you're getting this idea from :) ). You end up with a Superior Huntsman, but not a ARGH KILL YOU ALL NOW WITH TWELVE DICE IN EVERYTHING Huntsman. :) - DariusSolluman

Yeah, um, I forgot to include an important clause in the charm, stipulating that you could only be bonded to a number of people equal to your Essence, thus restricting its utility somewhat. Which still doesn't address the potential problems caused by the Charm, which on reflection I must admit are substantial. It was largely intended as an NPC charm, as Corlan suggests, because, well, most of these charms are bad PC charms unless you want everyone in your party to have the exact same charm selection.

I'm working on a revised version of the charm, in case anyone actually wants to use it as something other than a "ARGH KILL YOU ALL NOW WITH TWELVE DICE IN EVERYTHING" effect, but it'll have to wait until I post the Earth charms and suchlike. -AlecAustin
