Backstory

Born in the town of Skyvault, within the halls of the ice nation Aentha, Leena was the daughter of a government officer who monitored the flow of goods into the country, and oversaw the loading of them onto the First Age tram rails which ran into the deeper and more densely populated inner caverns. Growing up around the machines at her father's terminal and the first age automata that kept them running, she developed a fascination with technology. Although it was illegal for anyone to tamper with these beyond members of the Artificers Order, she showed a prodigious talent at creating her own trinkets even as a child, and by the age of 7 was making clockwork mice and other animals out of disguarded parts she'd find. Often recieving a scolding from her parents as to giggle of delight she'd send them scuttering off into peoples feet and generally causing havok. Her own admitance to the halls of the Artificers Order was almost a formality.

Leena served her apprenticeship with distinction, at mechanics, histories and the medative katas the order used to heighten awareness and sharper thought. Aged 15 she was youngest person in almost 5 centuries to be granted full membership to the ranks of the order. At first she started off working on the tram rails and fixing some of the lesser automata as junior members of the order are expected to, kept away from the more important tasks until the gained more experience. It only took her 5 years to reach the point where she was repairing systems essential to the internally regulated atmosphere which kept the caves habitable, working with others who were mostly twice her age.

She exalted a year later. Working on a First Age machine that regulated the environment to a large populated sector alongside a number of other members of the Order and automata, and explosion went off, critically damaging the machine, killing the rest of the team and caving in the access tunnel leading to it. She was alone, without the prospect of help, and faced with the task of fixing a machine radically beyond her comprehension. The cost of failure would likely mean death for those in the effected area. Desperatly she spent hours alone working on the machine, often making things worse before they got better. As twilight approached, the system of illumination glowed it's characteristic red as sunset hit the surface of the glacier above. Bathed in pink light, she exalted and what had seemed impossible to understand before appeared as simple as the clockwork mice she had made as a child. She was dug out from the cave-in the next day.
