New page

rebeccaborgstrom - 12/02/2003 19:15:46

One way to approach this issue: assume that a normal character is wearing 7/7 armor with a -2 mobility penalty / 1 fatigue, and a normal MA character isn't. Subtract these numbers from the values for artifact armor to get suitable "MA armor".

For example, "martial artist's superheavy plate equivalent": fatigue 1, 8 motes commitment, 8/8 soak, artifact 5. I imagine this as a suit of armor that, in itself, knows martial arts Charms, and so goes along with them. Maybe instead of 8 motes, it's 5 motes commitment plus 1m committed for each normally disallowed Charm you want to use in the armor---you "teach" it Blade of the Battle Maiden or Snake Form.

On the one hand, this approach sucks, because the no-armor prohibition is intended to keep you from being a soak monster, not reduce your soak by X. Getting 8 soak from armor re-enables those possibilities, particularly if it's starmetal. (Ping free in 2003!)

On the other hand, the Artifact levels involved are awfully high: Artifact 3 for +3/+2 soak, Artifact 4 for +5/+7, and Artifact 5 for +8/+8. I might have Fatigue 1 for all of them and consider it to cancel out.
