= The Old East =

The Old East is a vast region, loosely united as a confederacy around Tombstone City, one of the colonies of [[/Casper|Casper The Friendly Ghost City]]. It was originally created to service the burial needs of this area. Continued hostilities between the wild horse-tribes of the area and the colonists led to a collapse of ties with the motherland, and nearly the destruction of the colony. In time, however, it united with other local city states and gradually tamed the wild tribes. In the process, the locals became rather wild themselves.

The Old East is a dangerous area, a perpetual fronteir of cattle towns, mining towns, gamblers, and only semi-domesticated tribes who get angry when outsiders violate hunting grounds and sacred land. At times, the locals turn on each other, uniting again whenever outsiders seek to intrude. Walk softly and carry a large firewand.

The Old East has a very friendly relationship with [[/CutNShoot|Cut'n'Shoot]], providing a large amount of auxillary cavalry in return for favorable trade terms and aid against outsiders. Of late, the [[/Brambles|Mask of Vintners]] has been threatening the Old East, but due to the amount of evil-laced liquor he's able to sell in the Old East, everyone seems too drunk of late to get their act together and properly lynch the man. Someone really needs to do something about that. Give me another round, bartender...

The Old East is noted for its tradition of the singing cowboy, riding the range and serenading anything even vaguely attractive. This sometimes leads to other customs we won't talk about.

It is legally obligatory for locals to wear a cowboy hat; ideally, it should be color-coded to denote your loyalties--Red for friends of the Realm, Blue for friends of [[/CutNShoot|Cut'n'Shoot]], Black if you work for the Mask of Vintners, etc, etc. Certainly no one would ever wear the wrong color hat to lie about such things, after all!

Firewands are common weapons in this area, unlike most of the East, due to a combination of firedust deposits in the Tombstone hills and fairly easy trading access to the South.

Much of the southernmost region of the Old East is known as the Cattle War Zone; the locals are in a near perpetual state of war with cattle-raiders from [[/Bedhead|Bedhead]]. Many of the inhabitants of this area are former Bessie worshippers who have been assimilated into Old East culture; nothing is more bitter than a fight between relatives.

Sheriff Andrew Jackson is the commander of the Southern army of the Old East; this puts him right in the thick of the Cattle War Zone, which he tends to turn the heat up on periodically, launching major raids into Bedhead. However, his real obsession is the international business, [[/EvilBusiness|The Joint-Stock Company]]. He claims it is trying to kill him, but he will kill it instead. Whether this is true remains unclear.
