= The Ten Ninja Tribes =

* Location: East of the Scavenger Lands, on the north bank of the Maruto River in the eastern forests
* Population
** Urban: 30,000 (Farhold)
** Surrounding Area: 200,000
* Ruler: Each tribe has its own Warchief. The Master Logger, Pol of the Bun Yan, runs Farhold. The local Wood Spirit Court is ruled by Giant Blue Pine, LORD OF THE EAST (no really! Sort of.)
* Status: Tribal Zone. Farhold is a Free City.

The Ten Ninja Tribes have ruled this area for centuries; they are descended from the spy network of the legendary Bishonen Shinobi, X (so called because no one knew his real name). They gradually developed into a loose league of tribal ninja states where everyone is trained from birth to be a ninja. They then apply these skills to survival in the eastern forests. For centuries, they served Giant Blue Pine, who controls a large Wood Elemental Court in this area.

However, Giant Blue Pine has turned his back on them and given this land to the logging colony of Farhold, founded by the Grand Eastern Trading Combine, based in Minas LankWaterHawk. This is because they were able to offer him artifacts which enhanced his power and have enabled him to bring more courts under his sway. He is well on his way to claiming to be Lord of the East in truth.

The Tribes have been thrown into chaos by this, and turn to various Goddesses, spirits, demons, ghosts, and passing Exalts for Guidance. Rumors spread that X has been reborn and will return to lead his chosen people...only how will anyone recognize him? The X who can be known is not the X...

Freehold is a tightly run company town; wood elementals mingle with humans in relative harmony, though a few renegades are angry that Giant Blue Pine is allowing increasing amounts of logging which is beginning to sap at their power...
