On arriving in the island kingdom of Soshine, Okeanus explores, is told off by the king, and finding a /Tavamae, is knocked for a loop and rendered unable to fight. Escaping his prison, he ends up being locked inside a hidden prison-room in a manse at the center of the island.

The rescue party of Kasim, Sura, Lin Redthorne and Peleps Talessita arrives on the island, and makes a mockery of the abilities of the Tavamae, rescuing Okeanus, who was reasonably irate. The king is located, whereupon he reveals that he has already dispatched his demons to the city ship. The party makes all haste back home, hoping to stop the ship's rather vigorous sinking.
