BACKGROUND 
I wasn't supposed to Exalt. My parents were not even patricians -- just simply a pair of alchemists working in the basement labs of Mnemon Tanesa's country villa. I guess he took a liking to my mother, though I didn't learn this until much later. I took up my parent's vocation at an early age. I was good at it, too, enough to qualify for the Immenent Registrar's qualification exams.

I guess destiny as an alchemist wasn't to be. I earned a bit of money for myself tutoring Tanesa's youngest child, a mean-spirited boy about my age who was just back from primary school. He hadn't Exalted (yet), but was big and strong, and thought he could intimidate me. I guess he didn't like it when I didn't back down, because the next morning, he tried to kill me. He used some martial art technique to incapacitate me, tied me to a large rock, and threw me down the well. I should have died, but instead I was surrounding by a dark blue-black glow. I was able to untie the rope and made it back to the surface. Boy, was he in trouble!

When Tanesa saw me, he knew instantly that he was my real father, which my mother confirmed when she was confronted. I suspect Tanesa always knew, as he was never very harsh with me, and saw to it that I had access to some education. But it wasn't enough for a Prince of the Earth. I had to study hard for two more years just so I was "acceptable" in Dragon-Blooded society. The rest of the family didn't want anything to do with me. I wanted to join the Spiral Academy and get into the financial business, but Tanesa was having his own trouble with the family, and wasn't able to secure an admission. The family gave me a choice -- be out of the way as an Immaculate, or be out of the way as a sorcerer. I reluctantly chose the latter.

I'm a lot older than most of my classmates. I really don't feel like I belong here. The classes are hard, and the other kids my age are several years ahead in their studies. On the bright side, I'm breezing through the alchemy classes, and usually have time at the end of class to brew up my own concoctions for my own, umm, "private enterprise". The other students don't have much in the way of money, so I tend to trade in favours. I have to be careful, though, not to get caught.
