BACKGROUND 
Ashen Snow used to have a name – a real name, a family – but that was a long time ago. Some speculate that he was a Tepet child, lost in the north years ago – but even so, nobody would recognize him if he was. Ashen Snow is a name given to him by his ‘father’, a sorcerous man ruling a small, insignificant shadowland in the North – controlling the living and dead alike.

The man was weak, and sought to use Ashen either as his heir – or as a vessel. For near a decade Ash lived in that dark land, surrounded by the dead and the dying, wishing every day for release or freedom. He found that release in the vast, quiet, empty library that his father kept – consisting of magical texts and darker, more dubious works. When the land slept during the day, Ash would sit in the library and study for hours on end, seeking a way to free himself from the draining, dying shadowland and the rotting dead that would follow him wherever he went.

A year ago he found what he was looking for. Bound in the skin of Dragon and written in the blood of Sol, he found the book. It spoke of circles, enchantments, locked rooms and chained cages – and most of all what stood in these cages: demonic entities, bound to serve those who would subvert their will.

Ashen Snow found his freedom on a cold, chilly night. The first snows of winter had begun to fall, and a real chill, coupled with the unnatural dank cold of the shadowland had started to spread. His father sat on the gray stone throne in the middle of his hall, molding his dead servants to his every desire.

Teodozji, Lion Sent Into the World, leapt up through the wooden floor beneath Father’s throne and slashed at him once, then twice. Holy symbols burst into flame, and the dead with them. Father’s horde rushed into his hall, scrambling to help their creator, and they too burst into the flame – dead, dry flesh going up in a human bonfire.

Ash ran far and hard, letting the winds carry him south to the Tepet colonies he’d seen on Father’s maps. For months he wandered the colonies, uncomfortable with the living and awkward sleeping among them – beings who would create such noise day and night, who walked with vigor and purpose, who cried at the loss of their legions. Overwhelmed, he never stayed in one place too long.

Then a man identified him as Tepet Vylar, concluding the rumors of Ashen Snow’s identity. In actuality, there was no way the man could have identified him as such. It was likely he had either used sorcery, or that he was lying. Or so Ash assumed.

Once Ash’s story had been related to House Tepet, they tested his Occult skills and were soon applying him to the Heptagram. Ash, having nowhere else to go and nobody to turn to, meekly went along.
