The Door Key, also known as a Hearth Key, Gate Key, Manse Key, the Leap Home, the Key of Marvelous Expedience and Convience, or The Key of the Benificent and Auspicious Return, was actually quite common in the First Age, mainly for it's convenience and relatively simple manufacture. It's shaft and teeth are made of starmetal and it has an orichalcum Hearthstone setting in the head. A Hearthstone placed in this key provides it's normal benefits to an attuned Exalted who keeps it close--it does not need skin contact like a Hearthstone pendant. However, while slotted with a Hearthstone, this key has an additional power. When inserted into the lock of any door and turned, the door will open into the Manse that the Hearthstone comes from, provided that the user is attuned to that Manse. The doorway remains open until the key is removed and the door is shut, so any fellows of the user may follow him, but while making an escape the user is advised to move quickly.

Another version is rumored to exist, one where the user may return to the last door they used to re-enter their Manse, but few of these remain in the Age of Sorrows.
