1st Day of Descending Wood, RY 768

Dear Mother,

It seems like I wrote my first letter home only weeks ago and now it’s nearly the end of the term. I hope my correspondence has shown how hard I’ve worked this year. Since my last letter, I have acquired a small interest in a mining company in the Haslanti League. It was more about establishing connections with the League but access to feathersteel is a nice bonus.

As well, I’ve taken the lead in establishing a community theater in Cherak. I’ve lined up a number of the city’s leading citizens to fund it and the first performance is in just three weeks. I hope that it brings some joy into their lives and that they’ll think a bit better of us. Given the state of things right now, I’m sure you can understand how mortals’ opinions vary.

I want to thank you and Father both for your gracious decision to let me remain in the North during our school break. Aunt Elana told me of it a few days ago. Since receiving word, I have begun planning a trip to visit Gethamane, Whitewall, and Icehome. It will be a great opportunity to cement the relationships I’ve established over the last few months. I believe I’ve made good decisions but face to face meetings are important.

I believe several of my classmates will be remaining in Cherak for the break, too. I’m friends with several and it is my hope that lasting bonds are being formed among us. Our House’s position is a precarious one and I only hope that the friendships I’m developing among Houses Cynis, Mnemon, and V’neef can help not only the Realm, but our own place.
