=== General House Rules ===

* Language: "Modern Realm." High Realm and Low Realm now fall mechanically within the same language group, for the purposes of the Linguistics ability. The separate dialects still exist; but Low Realm is a simplified and somewhat corrupt version of High Realm. High Realm uses the alphabetic writing of the Dragon-Blooded Shogunate, rather than the pictographs of the Old Realm. Low Realm does not have a written form but low and middle-class literates sometimes use a shorthand version of High Realm to write Low Realm. Speakers of Low and High Realm can make themselves be understood to each other with some effort, but conveying any complex ideas is impossible. Generally speaking, any PCs who learn "Modern Realm" as a language have sufficient command of both dialects. Natives of the Blessed Isle who do not take the Linguistics ability can only communicate effectively in their native dialect.
