=== Background ===
The splendour of the city of Nexus is unequalled outside the Blessed Isle, and so is its squalour. In the putrid alleys and laneways of the Firewander District there lived a boy. He never knew his father, and his mother was a slave and a prostitute. One day, he attempted to steal a morsel of food from a rich merchant’s table, and was caught. He exalted then as one of the Daggers of Heaven, and so did Pallas the Silver Fox come into being.

Nexus is a city of innumerable dangers, but they cannot touch you. You have lived a lifetime in its streets, and they are second nature to you. No tower is so high it cannot be climbed, no treasure so well-guarded that it can remain unplundered. The Guild has put a price on your head that would buy a small city; one day, you swear, it will be a price that would buy a large city. You have no fear, although you do sometimes admit to a perfectly rational desire for self-preservation. You try not to let it get you down, though.

And yet your exploits, outrageous though they may be, are not purely for self-enrichment. You remember the indignities the slaves endured, and the helplessness you felt as your mother lay dying. You cannot forget where you came from, and you will not forget those who still remain there. A large proportion of what you take is funnelled back to the poor, via people you know you can trust. What you keep is more than enough to maintain a comfortable existence.
